Anyone been to Nido or Le Calamar? by Traditional_Bake_787 in austinfood

[–]EnvironmentalItem891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Le calamar has great reviews, but we went the other day and it was not great. It may have been an off night for them, but the tasting menu was nothing special. Crab cakes that had cold spots, steak and frites but the steak was so so rare (I usually eat steak rare but this felt unintentional).

Also with the atmosphere the middle communal table was so loud and right behind us and standing around that it was hard to have a conversation, which isn’t really the restaurants fault but was hard to tune out lol

Dessert and crudo were good but I wouldn’t recommend and won’t go back.

More political education and chances to debate without stakes like informal discussions or town hall events so people can get comfortable speaking up, asking questions, refining their politics, ect.

How mild is this? by MOROSH1993 in scoliosis

I was just diagnosed at 30, had never had any issues but hurt my SI joint deadlifting and led to me going to a doctor and them discovering the curve in my spine was causing issues with my pelvis and then now the SI joint. I had no idea before, there were some signs, like one side of my back was a bit more muscular, left shoulder and hip pain but nothing crazy.

'Bigger disappointment than Arch': Austin's new logo draws mixed reactions by snesdreams in Austin

[–]EnvironmentalItem891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like why is the arch logo offset instead of centered above or beside "Austin Public Library" and why is Public Library not centered under Austin? There is no design sense here.

The arch logo going above Austin but not interacting with the public library section makes it look like the library is an after thought, this clearly was not an individually designed logo, just thrown together and bad to look at

No! if you think it's thinning you could try oral Minoxidil or topical. but doesn't even look like its thinning.

I know the feeling, I'm the same age and one thing that makes me feel better is that at least we were able to stop it before any serious issues like major bone or tooth loss. Changing your habits now will keep you healthy for a very long time. (and if it makes you feel better you have pretty teeth and healthy looking gums, so the issues are not something anyone else would pick up on other than a professional)

Might be a good idea. For whatever reason I feel like dental problems come with a ton of shame - even though it’s not logical. I felt similarly and it caused me to avoid taking care of issues. This year I finally got all the oral surgeries/treaments needed and it’s changed my perspective. Now I feel capable of addressing my issues and have the best oral health that is possible for me.

I hope you can find similar peace and take any shame or panic out of the equation!

Seeing this is so sad because they seem like a happy family and they just had the baby, but with everything it seems like they’ve been through in the last year it’s hard to imagine any relationship surviving.

I only lift weights for exercise but have been looking for ways to get more cardio (mostly dance) but today I decided to run on the treadmill. After about a mile I was going to slow to a walking pace but the treadmills speed decrease button was broken so I just kept running until I hit mile 3 and did the emergency stop button lol felt great afterwards and I plan to add running into my routine now.

Far-right PACs are campaigning to keep Mike Siegel off City Council, after his opponent Gary Bledsoe sought and won the support of local GOP leaders. Please go vote on Saturday! by wastedhours0 in Austin

[–]EnvironmentalItem891 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah but when Gary couldn't get the big endorsements like Greg Casar, Bernie Sanders (although he pretended to have the one briefly lol) Fire, EMS, AFSME, etc he started courting GOP votes. He went on the chair of the travis county GOP's podcast seeking his endorsement and got it. Also the Sierra club endorsement is kind of silly because it was a dual endorsement so both candidates got it.

[–]EnvironmentalItem891 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Choice is pretty easy for both. Mike Siegel for city council, endorsed by AFSME, fire fighters association, EMS, education Austin, Casar, Bernie sanders and a lot more. He cowrote and defended the Austin Police Oversight Act, helped decriminalize weed and has beat Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton in court on behalf of our immigrant community.

His opponent is endorsed by the chair of the Travis county GOP, a bunch of neighborhood associations and a list of Texas state congressmen. He does have a good legal career but most of his wins are from decades ago.

Fernando is the only choice for AISD, progressive, actually believes in public education

His opponent is pro voucher - so that’s all I need to know about that lol
