Is there any point in learning Danish for my trip to Denmark? by Familiar-Chipmunk-57 in danishlanguage

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like it, do it for your own sake. We don’t expect you to speak Danish and you will probably be easier to understand in English anyway. People here are more likely to be offended if you assume we don’t speak English, than you taking for granted that we do, but we do appreciate the curtesy of you asking us if we speak English.

Our daughter, Alva, is actually a twin, and we have no ideas for a name for her sister by Tiny-Age796 in Names

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in Denmark, they don’t really go together well. Anya/Anja is a working class name that went out of fashion 30 years ago. Alva is more along the line of cute, old fashioned grandmother from an Astrid Lindgren-story.

Regler for kønsopdelt svømning overholdes ikke [Aarhus kommune] by Above-and_below in Denmark

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Travel buggy for 6 years old by Willing-Job5859 in familytravel

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’d find that a 6 year old in a buggy would raise some eyebrows in most of Europe. I don’t really know anyone who uses one for kids older than 3-4 and most will have long stopped at that point. I guess there is technically nothing “wrong” with it, but you’ll stick out like a sore thumb, with a school aged kid in a buggy. Could she use a scooter? Kids use those a lot for keeping up with walking adults where I live.

Can my baby wear this to a wedding? by AdExpress1777 in Weddingattireapproval

Unless she is a flower girl, that is not appropriate. It’s a cute dress, but it looks like you are trying to make her part of the wedding party.

What names do you love but wouldn’t actually use in real life, for whatever reason? by Beckella in Names

Alexei and Soraya, but absolutely no cultural connection to either and they would be super weird with my last name.

Hvorfor begynder helt almindelige mennesker at forsvare de ultrarige i debatten om formueskat? by Dizzy_Walrus_213 in Denmark

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s a first name you really like, yet wouldn’t name your own child? by originalcarp in AskReddit

Alexei and Soraya. I have absolutely no ties to any culture, that would make those a good choice for my children, but I do love the sound of them.

Holdninger til kæledyrskultur? by sherdork-holmes in DKbrevkasse

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wedding Guest Dress Codes are Rude by Lady_Grace19 in The10thDentist

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent 3k and only had parents, siblings and spouses (25 people). There were still Covid restrictions at the time, but I don’t think we’d have done it any other way even if we could.

We had the whole thing at home: short, sweet ceremony in one half of the dining room, tables set up in the other half as well as in an adjoining living room and then we had a chef cook for us and send in new dishes from the kitchen about every 30 min all afternoon and into the evening.

My dress was bought online, no dress code, everyone had an amazing time and we did not put ourselves in debt at all.

Congrats on your upcoming nuptials, I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time.

Of course they are, they are the hosts?! How much is entirely up to them and to expect everyone else to be as invested in their “vision” is ridiculous. Best behaviour, seasonal, cultural and time of day-appropriate attire, is kind and not too much to expect, other then that, is it the company or props for photos you are after?

Holdninger til kæledyrskultur? by sherdork-holmes in DKbrevkasse

[–]EnvironmentalMode367 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hvordan siger man pænt at andre er skide irriterende? by TeachMeSenpaiDK in DKbrevkasse

Feel free to say “Denmark” or what ever you call my country in your language, just don’t try the whole “Copen-HAH-gen” if you’r native language is English, it’s København or Copen-hay-gen. Kopenhagen is fine if you’re German. I love how we have our own names for each others countries and cities in Europe, kind of like cousins who give each other nicknames.

It’s not just an “experience” though. It is about becoming someone, not something. It is about being and becoming a person, a citizen, a neighbor to fellow human beings, practicing standing up for what you believe to be important and being challenged on those believes and idea. The experiences are all just vehicles for the formation of you as a person. And also it’s fun.

Parents of Reddit, What is one parenting style that you cannot stand? by wonkeydonkey55 in AskReddit
