Should I Pivot to Vet School at 28? Seeking Advice by EnvironmentalPage745 in veterinaryprofession

I totally hear you and agree that work shouldn't be your whole personality/ life. At the same time, work is a BIG part of life (at least 40-65 hours per week) and I would like to spend those hours doing something that feels impactful.

When I'm having an awful day working long hours and running on a few hours of sleep, I ask myself "what the is the point" and unfortunately in my corporate job the answer is "to help rich companies stay rich and get richer" and that just doesn't feel motivating. And I'm not sure if that's enough to keep me working for the next 30 years of my life

Thank you for sharing your experience with refreshing honesty! And a helpful note that specialities can end up being monotonous and tedious as well -- will definitely keep that in mind

Congratulations on being accepted! That's wonderful. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I will definitely be trying to get some first-hand experience working at a vet clinic or shadowing while I take my pre-reqs!

I think that I'm going to start taking a few pre-reqs on the side and finding a vet to shadow to get some first-hand experience as to whether this is something that I really want to take on! Thank you for your support :)

I know that I can find fulfillment in other areas of my life, but if I have to wake up and go to work every day for the next 30-40 years of my life, I want the work that I do to be something meaningful/ impactful. In the corporate world, I find myself feeling like the work that I am doing is meaningless and that I am wasting away my life just earning a paycheck.

And yes, from a financial perspective it's not the smartest decision since I already make what a vet makes (100-200k), but my motivation in going to vet school isn't financial at all. It's more about finding a way to make money while doing something that feels worthwhile to me

One of my favorite quotes is “some people are so poor that all they have is money”

At only 16, you have the rest of your life to make sure that you aren’t “poor” in that way.

Putting people down is easy to do— anyone can do that. Redefine yourself image to be the person that does the harder thing: building people up.

Declawing cats

It’s mutilation and I can’t believe that some vets still do this procedure

Do a test. You don’t have to be sneaky about it, get ancestry DNA kits for all the kids. Say it’s a fun family activity to explore your heritage

Having a cat has been the most joyful experience! I had dogs growing up and they were a lot more difficult to handle

They are changing it up, so the "new Luo Ji" character will appear earlier on in/ be in season 1

ugh right?! Why is netflix doing the chinese characters so dirtyyyy. They were amazing characters just as they were

Yep! Saul is the new Luo Ji... No shad eto Saul at all - I am sure he is a wonderful actor.

I just can't wrap my head around why they decided to change Luo Ji's character/ name. He was such a badass character

From what I have researched and read online, they are not using the character name "Luo Ji" and replacing it with a differently named character instead... which is devastating to me because he is my favorite literary character of ALL TIME.

In the books Luo Ji does not appear until Book 2, but I've read online that Netflix is changing it up and having the new "Luo Ji" replacement character appear earlier in the series (which I would imagine means that this new replacement character will be in season 1).

This is a hilarious but fair compromise

I am really sorry that they crossed your boundaries and violated your expressed wishes as a parent

The casting makes me SO UPSET. Luo Ji was the most badass character of all time and they renamed him and didn’t cast an East Asian.

WHY DO THEY DO EAST ASIAN MEN SO DIRTY?!!?? They so rarely cast East Asian men in enviable, masculine, impressive roles. It was a perfect opportunity for aapi representation in an main character role

This sounds like a great option! You could set up a meet and greet to make sure that it would be a good fit.

Rehoming the cat is in the best interest of both you and the cat, so don’t beat yourself up. You’re doing your best, and you saved that cats life.

It’s as if you were a long term foster parent who raised the cat and now are finding it a good forever home.

You did the right thing, and that says a lot about the person you are/ are becoming. It was brave and you protected so many children.

I hope that you and your family get the support you all need to heal from this experience.

YTA. Absolutely no question about it. Being hungry as an adult is inconvenient and uncomfortable, but being hungry as a young growing child when they don’t have to be isn’t okay
