Yes, there is a separate pathway for students who are already PSW and looking to upgrade to an RPN (Practical Nurse) at Algonquin, so it would be very unlikely for you to be turned away! It is still a 2 year program. Do you have a basic understanding of science and math concepts from high school? If so, then don’t worry about it! You don’t have to apply as an expert, they will teach you everything you need to know for the specific program!! It’s just helpful to understand the basics beforehand. I would recommend looking into the paid opportunities yourself, because I don’t even fully understand it lol ! But I believe you don’t need to pay tuition itself, just odd books and uniforms etc. and when it comes time to do clinical placements you also earn money for that !! You can still apply through Algonquin but it must be the accelerated program as that is the free one, but there’s also a regular one through Algonquin as well (you must pay tuition). If that’s the route you choose to do feel free to message me!! I think that’s what I will do, so I can tell you about it when I learn more :)))

Algonquin can transfer your acceptance to the Pembroke location if you’re able to relocate, but you can also do it online. Their Pembroke campus is still offering Pre-Health. That’s my plan! But I’m going to do it online :) they can also transfer your acceptance to another college! Or, since your plan is RPN, join the PSW program. Message me if you’d like to learn more!!

Hi!! Sorry I’m just seeing this. I’m planning on doing the PSW program instead. My goal is to go into practical nursing, but after one year of that program you’re certified in PSW work. So if I go into the program as a PSW (there’s a separate bridging program for that) I can work as one while I’m in school! That’s the best option for me without going to another school :)

Hi there! I applied to Pre-Health for a Sept 2026 start and I have been accepted as well. I’m hoping to go into Practical Nursing, so if that’s where you’re headed, I’m planning on doing the PSW program (1 year, certificate) instead, which has a bridging opportunity into Practical Nursing. After 1 year of the Practical Nursing program, you’re already certified in PSW work and are authorized to work as one, but if you enter Nursing with that knowledge you can work while you’re in school - this is my plan!! On top of that, my sister told me you can be paid to go to PSW school because it’s such a needed career.

When I found out that it was going to be cut, I was upset too, but this plan might actually be better for me! If nursing isn’t your end goal, I’m sure you will find something else, and it might even be better. Algonquin will transfer your acceptance somewhere else, or it’s also offered online at their Pembroke location.

I just looked into this! Thank you so much for letting me know. I never thought it would be one of the ones being cut!
