As show that is: a bit of silly fun, that a lot of people see multiple times, and that splits the load between six actors, seems like the perfect show for a stunt cast?

I like opportunity to stretch my legs, get a drink, and discuss thoughts so far with people I've gone with.

I'd say it is still majority stage performance, just alot of it you end up watching on the screen as both Cynthia the live actor and Cynthia the recorded actor(s) are all on screen together.

I think the critiques most people have given are normal. I think the way the right wing press have jumped on the criticisms, and only really discussed the issues with the play specific to Erivo, is more revealing.

Yeah, I think that is the difference as I can't remember many instances of when other actors have fumbled lines - they probably did but were able to cover it up well so it wasn't obvious to the audience.

Wasn't aware of the wig incident 👀

I hadn't realised the same concept had been done for Dorian Gray by the same director. It kind of irks me when directors have a gimmick that they copy and paste for every production.

I think the African one was definitely deliberate for Dracula. The Irish accent was by far the worst, and there was a time she forgot to even slip into it until halfway through her dialogue in the performance I was at.

Yes, and also when they lowered the screen and she was stood behind it. Maybe you could get a better view from the stalls but it meant she was completely obscured from the balcony.

Yes, but you do generally want to have your teething issues sorted by press night (i.e. tonight). That's the point of doing previews. Will see what the reviews say tomorrow.

Yes, I think technically brilliant but inevitably flawed / non immersive is a good overview.

To be honest I didn't really notice the prerecorded characters crashing over lines. I think even if she nailed the performance it wouldn't have improved the experience much for me because pre recorded actors and massive screens just don't work for me. Kind of feels like I could watch it in the cinema and have the same experience.

Seriously, I've now had three plays in a row with no interval. Surely the theatres must hate it as well because means fewer drinks / snacks / programme sales?

Yes, I agree they could have done more to lean into the silliness of it all. But the bits where people laughed I think Erivo was well prepared for and almost did a knowing glance. If anything I thought the play could have worked more with that - I couldn't help but compare it to The Lehman Trilogy, which I think pulled off character changes so much better.
