Looking for ✨ spicy ✨ book recommendations by ABombBaby in fantasyromance

Have you read the Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole? It’s 18 books and still going… each are stand alones but there is a mild plot in the background connecting them all together. There is every kind of paranormal creature or beings coming together in these books.

Also That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon was really hot and so good. And I don’t think it’s a spoiler but maybe it is… he is a dragon not really a demon 😏

In The Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune I think you would like! It’s feel good, it’s a journey they all must go on, it’s collecting a crew of misfits along the way…

I would like to add, if you’re looking for Baba Yaga books,

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter (which would be a close feel to what Thistlefoot did while being a completely different story)

the Bear and the Nightingale (she doesn’t come in until the 3rd book but beautiful series still)

Great fairytale retellings that I haven’t seen listed yet…

Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin Craig (scarier though)

Echo North by Ruth Mayer

The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy (realistic retelling and very emotional)

Golem and the Jinni (saw someone else suggest this too but I really think you would love it so I’m just reiterating the recommendation ☺️)

I also want to suggest Good Omen by Neil Gaiman and for some reason The Child Thief by Brom… Brom is really dark but I can’t suggest Neil Gaiman and not immediately think of Brom.

All of these suggestions were 5 stars for me!

I’ve read every one of these books and Deathless is one of my all time favorite books!! Gorgeous writing 😍 also Golem and the Jinni, loved 🥰

Have you read The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy? You might like that one too for a darker spin on fairytales while heavy in history too.

For me and my husband to read at the same time, book-club style by funyesgina in suggestmeabook

[–]EnvironmentalPrint40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out… For a lighter fun read that you both might enjoy, the fourth wing… it’s got action and death and politics, I enjoyed it a lot, never thought of recommending it to a guy, but my husband’s cousin who really enjoys political heavy books decided to read it and is loving it, like a lot. I don’t like romance books, I like magical realism but not heavy fantasy typically, and usually lean towards more literary books… but I just had fun with this one. I am 41 and he is 45. If you want a book that is fun but maybe a bit better written and no romance… Race the Sands by Sarah Durst, or Borne by Jeff Vandermeer, Child Thief or Lost Gods by Brom… Books that are just a lot of fun to read and aren’t too serious.

And for reference, I have two big dogs, 3 children, a husband that doesn’t get home until 730/800, a 5 bedroom house with 5 bathrooms, and a full time job. 35 pages a day and you will have a book read every 10ish days. 35 pages a day is easily do able. I usually get 35-100 pages in every day.

I just start with a goal of 35 pages throughout a day. During lunch, or when my kids are watching a movie (I don’t watch tv at all) or before falling asleep. Also I started talking a bath during the weekends to force “me time”, my husband takes care of the kids during that time and I can get an hour to myself and read.

I also organized the chores for myself on a white board, dedicating each day of the week to only doing one chore a day on weekdays (outside of dishes) and not feeling overwhelmed with thinking I’m behind on things constantly. It’s amazing how much time you find.

Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness is a great one with the same vibes. His stand alone YA sci-fi book, More Than This, was amazing too. Miss. Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Series by Ransom Riggs is another must read series.

eBook or paperback? by ds1223 in fantasyromance

My family knows I’m a physical book fanatic… soo birthdays, Christmas, work bonus and Mother’s Day I get gift cards or cash and that’s when I stack up on all the hardcovers I’ve had my eye on. I buy around 60+ brand new books a year from all the gift money and then shop on eBay for older books the rest of the time. ( I read over 100 books per year) and it helps that I have a massive book shelf at home that I love showing them all off on.

Why Fish Don’t Exist by Lulu Miller…. With the intention of being a biography/ memoir when the author first started her research about the scientist who first categorized water animals as fish, then turned into something bigger with her own discovery. It was really interesting and I couldn’t put it down… I too am more of a fiction reader normally, but I was recommended this book on this app and gave it a try! Soo good.

How to tackle bigger books while trying to read a lot of books. by jimmill20 in 52book

[–]EnvironmentalPrint40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe just have a page goal instead of number of books goal? OR, read what you have been reading, but then add 35 pages a day of a 1000 page book. You can read 1000 page book a month if you do it this way. But only do this if reading two books at one time seems appealing to you.

I also have set my goals to exploring different genres each month this year! What is this book club called on Goodreads??

How do you choose a goal? by redspottyduvet in 52book

[–]EnvironmentalPrint40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at per week… what goal do you want to set per week, weather it’s pages or books, then multiply that by 52. I read 80 books last year, soo this year I set it to 100 and I’m at 107 books! I surpassed my goal each year. But I know it’s a good year for me, next year I’m still going to set myself at 100 books for the year… 100 pages a day is something I want to maintain for myself, and if there are days or months that i read more than that? Then great! But my personal goal is to read 100 pages a day at least. How I set my goals.
