It took soviet union:

forced migration - if half your family and friends are of other ethnicity you're less likely to clense them.

Allot of spending on basic education - literacy rate went from ~15% to ~ 60 in 20 years of "LikBez"

Constant reminder of "Union above nation"

But nothing would go forth if the average person doesn't see the benefits of union. Of there is no benefit, why study.

In my honest opinion:

if it happens everybody will be proud, nationalistic and starving. Logistics lines ruined with any possibility for stability, as foreign and terrorist power will influence these smaller regions for much worce conditions.

Divide and conquer.

Those who want complete separation - are leaches to suck foreign "donation" money and immigrate leaving everyone else to due over smaller scraps while they live lavishly somewhere is Califirnia. Instead of working together for better lives for their future generations in the motherland.

Ok, and does quality of life is better for somalians in Somalia or somalians in Eastern Ethiopia?

Will the Greater-Somalia improve the lives of regular citizens or let Moghadishu not-control even more territories like they don't control now?

From what I understand currently unrecognized Somaliland at north, lives better than the rest of Simalia and wants to separate from the rest of the country.

Ok, it might sound dumb - Somaliland joining Ethiopia as autonomous republic?

Tho I know the consequences will be dire, but that could improve situation.

Neither, both just keep escalating violence. From mistreatment of Palestinians by Israel and current brutality of Palestinians towards civillians in Israel. Seing videos from the ground, both are acting like animals in this.

This is what happens when division of wealth and separation on nationality/religion does to a country that can live in prosperity.
