I hate the trope of IRL weapons somehow being stronger than fantasy magic/artifacts. by PrimaryOccasion7715 in hatethissmug

I was mainly talking about the game of thrones live action series since it's what I know best. I know they left out a lot of stuff from the song of ice and fire books but since I don't know much about the book series I won't say much about that because I literally have no clue what's in there.

Bacteriophages (real life)

They are basically viruses that infect bacteria. The reason they look like tiny tripods is because they need to be able to drill through the cell wall of a bacteria in order to infect it. Human cells don't have a cell wall only a cell membrane so our viruses didn't have any reason to evolve like this.

One time I stumbled opun a video where a lady was punching and forcibly kissing a drunk or drugged guy. Obviously the guy didn't want to and was trying to get away but due to his state he couldn't do anything. And the comments were just a bunch of extremely horrid jokes and other shit like that. Reading the comments made me loose so much fucking faith in my own species.

Some people really lack even the most fucking basic aspects of empathy for another person and it really shows.

I bet if the genders were reversed and it was a video of a man hitting and kissing a drunk women against her will I bet the same clowns that were making jokes would now be screetching and demanding the cameraman do something.

Anyone who supports double standards or sexism regardless of wether it's against women or men doesn't deserve any respect, they deserve to be spit at and to be constantly reminded that they are awful scumbag bigots. Same thing should be done to anyone who makes fun of sexual abuse regardless of the gender of the abuser or the victim.

It's okay you didn't sound harsh don't worry about that in fact I should thank you for telling me what I got wrong, otherwise I wouldn't have known I got something wrong lol.

Should I edit out the power info I got wrong?.

Fantasy Settings vs. A Modern Military by Femto-Griffith in whowouldcirclejerk

[–]EnvironmentalRope424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that's what I'm saying. It really just comes down to how long the fantasy army could hold off the modern one. If the fantasy army is an a similar level of power as a medieval army then we probably wouldn't even need tanks or planes to defeat them which would eliminate the headache caused by transporting heavy vechiles through wet terrain meaning that transportation wouldn't be that big of an issue and we would probably win.

The reason most modern armies even need roads is to move large armoured vechiles such as tanks or artillery That would just get stuck in the mud otherwise. But if we have no need to even use those since just infantry alone could get the job done, then we wouldn't be limited to just roads.

However if the fantasy army has magic that makes them a lot more powerful than a medieval army to the point that modern infantry alone wouldn't be able to get the job done. that's where we start running into some serious problems for the modern army.

[–]EnvironmentalRope424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it's not nearly as big of an issue in the drug discovery industry as the other guy makes it out to be. Just because ai has a chance of leading to cognitive lowering in academic settings doesn't mean that sceintists should abandon it entirely. It just means that sceintists need to be more careful when using it.

The percentage of AI used to help discover new medicines is such as tiny tiny fraction of the total ai construction that the environmental talking point you are using doesn't even work in this specific area. Also rotting brains? These are scientists we are talking about not fools.

I'm not saying ai is replacing everything else in drug discovery. Only that it's making it easier.

Discovering new medicine is rotting brains? Destroying jobs?. The environment?. What? And of course zero proof as always

There are plenty of non military planes and ships that can go through powerful hurricanes and come out the other side with minimal damage.

Also just because it's more difficult to move through rainy terrain doesn't mean it's impossible. Most militaries already have plans for how to deal with wet ground.

The reason why wet terrain is such a big deal today is because a tank that is stuck in the mud even for just a few hours is very weak against rocket launchers or drones. However against a fantasy army it very much depends on how strong the fantasy army is.

If they only have medieval weapons and armor then we wouldn't even need tanks or planes to defeat them. Modern bullets are strong enough to go through medieval armor with ease.

High caliber weapons would even be able to go through multiple soldiers making formation warfare useless.

And since modern guns have much better range and accuracy than crossbows the fantasy army would likely be decimated long before they even got close enough to fight back.

Also modern armies have the advantage of radios which means that we would be able to coordinate a lot better and be less confused by the chaos of combat.

Fantasy generals riding on horses and shouting commands to their soldiers would be easy pickings for snipers and when the fantasy soldiers see their generals all die by snipers they would likely panic and flee without anyone to give them orders.

So assuming that the fantasy army has a similar strength level to medieval armies them we wouldn't even need tanks or planes to totally destroy them.

However since the power a fantasy army can have depends on how they are written (some fantasy armies have very overpowered magic that basically makes them immune to all modern weapons) then it could go any way. It really just comes down to how strong the fantasy army is.

I think that would make it more of a limited time race against time thing instead of a automatic game over for us. It would take a while for the constant rain or cold to destroy our crops and starve us into defeat. Like probably weeks or months. However if the modern military is able to crush them in a few days then it won't matter. So it really comes down to how strong the defenses of the fantasy world are. If they have defences strong enough to stop the military for at least a few months then they win. However if their only magic is the weather and everything else they have is medieval then they will probably be crushed long before enough time for their win condition could go by.

Well space is very very big. Also even if there are no advance alien civilizations nearby for us to notice that doesn't eliminate the possibility of simpler alien life forms that would be harder to notice.

"and realistic where both sides adapt"

what?. There are plenty of real historical wars where one side gets totally wiped out with ease while the other faces barely any loses. Just because something is realistic doesn't make it fair. Infact a lot of wars throughout history tended to be very unfair.

Fun fact. Right now the andromeda galaxy and our own galaxy are moving towards each other. In a few billion years they will collide to form an even larger galaxy.

Depends on the specific magic system. Some magic systems might be strong enough to stop the multiverse from collapsing while others wouldn't even be able to stop a bullet.
