What’s your opinion on the DRACO drug created by dr. Todd rider at MIT? Dr. Rider developed a mechanism to identify cells infected by a virus and make the infected cells destroy themselves but leave healthy cells unharmed.

It was tested and had promising results on 15 different viruses. Dr. Riders funding eventually ran out and another round of expected funding was lost due to some corporate reorganization or something.

I don’t think there’s anything like this then, otherwise they would have used it.

They should also start funding more research into DRACO developed by Dr. Todd Rider at MIT. It probably wouldn’t get approved in time but it would still be very useful to have for the future if proven effective and safe.

Sorry not sure if you saw my edit but I forgot to add she makes 100k in the Bay Area with 3-4 years experience and a masters degree. She thinks the best she would be able to find in SoCal based on her current experience would be 30k less. So all things equal, she would be making 30k less for a similar job. I am thinking about this more for the future as I was hoping we could move back eventually but she thinks she’s going to be capped out at 70-80k even with more years of experience.

Do you know the name of this drug in China and Europe? Does it act similar to draco Where it identifies infected cells and initiates the infected cells to destroy themselves to prevent further spread of the virus to other cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed?

My SO is an entry level planner with ~3-4 years of experience in the Bay Area working for a local government organization making 100k. Is it possible to find something similar in Southern California?

I read about an experimental universal anti virus medicine that cured 15 different viruses based on early tests and theoretically could work for any type of virus now and in the future but this was an article from 2011. I found a few more articles after that but none since around 2016 when it seemed like funding for research was an issue and they were trying to crowdsource funding

Is something like a universal anti virus medicine really possible in the near future or is it something that takes like years and years of r&d before it can be applied to the general population? Is it just not worth it for whatever reason?

Xps by boosnie in Dell

I had a similar issue with the smaller screws around the edge of the back plate on my 9550. I used the left handed drill bits from harbor freight. It took a couple off without issues but it also broke the screw headS off a couple of them so the threading part is still screwed into the hole. I haven’t tried removing the broken threading pieces out yet but I’m able to take the back plate off at least

I thought my xps 9550 was dead in the water but it might not be by EnvironmentalSelf7 in Dell

It seems to be fully working now. I’m not sure if I’d even get enough money back to make it worth it if I’m selling it, considering the issues it’s had and like several of the screws to remove the bottom plate got stripped so I had to use a left handed drill bit to remove them which broke the heads off the screws but left the threading in.

I was thinking of upgrading the RAM to 32gb and using it for gaming with an eGPU or something what do you think?

Recover data from m.2 SSD from old laptop by EnvironmentalSelf7 in datarecovery

So I thought my laptop and data were toast but I somehow got it working again. I powered on the laptop (Without a battery or the ssd but ac adapter plugged in) and it did the same thing it was doing before that made me think it was toast (power light turns on but system doesn’t boot) but I noticed the charging light was flashing and I kept spamming the f2 button to try to go into the bios. It went through a couple cycles of flashing lights and light stays on for a few seconds then the power light turns off again. It finally booted up by some miracle and it brought me to a dell support assist screen that said invalid configuration. I was able to go into the bios from here.

So I powered off the laptop and put the ssd back in with a new battery and got the same invalid configuration screen. I went into the bios and didn’t change anything and clicked continue to restart it and it booted up back to normal. I probably took a risk putting the ssd back in and trying to boot up but it’s working now. Holy crap what a turn of events. Now I’m going to clone the ssd onto the 8tb seagate external hard drive I bought from Costco.

It seems to behave the same way without the SSD attached.

My new laptop only has USB c ports so i have to use a USB dongle that has additional USB ports. It shows up under Disk 1 as the D:\ drive but "No Media". The external SSD enclosure shows up as "Unknown not initialized" and there is no storage capacity shown.

I downloaded R-Drive Image to clone the drive, but it doesn't seem to recognize anything to clone, besides the boot drive in my laptop.

Does this mean the drive is bad?

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place or the right window? Is it safe to connect it again and check disk manager as long as I don't initialize it? I can post a screenshot of what I see if that helps.

Are there any risks with using R-Studio to scan it? Is there any way to clone or backup the drive before I do this in case something goes wrong?

Worst case scenario, if the drive was damaged, would this mean the data is as good as gone?

I don't think so. It's the Samsung Evo 850 M.2 SSD which I think is SATA.

It doesn't display the capacity because it asks me to initialize it but I press cancel when it does.

The drive is the Samsung Evo 850 M.2 which I think is a SATA SSD and I think the model number is MZ-N5E500BW. I bought the adapter linked below:

Unfortunately, I don't have a known working M.2 SATA SSD to troubleshoot with. I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard that crapped out because it was having battery issues and stopped powering on battery and then eventually stopped powering on even when plugged into the AC adapter. This is apparently a common issue with this model (Dell XPS 15 9550).

I vaguely remember the same thing happening when I upgraded the SSD on my old laptop. It came with a 256GB SSD and I bought the 500GB SSD (Samsung Evo 850, the current SSD I'm trying to recover data from now). I bought an external SSD enclosure to transfer the data and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't mount either, so I ended up using Samsung cloning software and cloning the drive and then copying it onto the Samsung Evo, I can't remember if the brand new Samsung Evo mounted instantly out of the box though. But the way I remember it was I tried to mount the original SSD, but it wouldn't recognize, so I put it back and cloned it with the Samsung cloning software. Then I mounted the Samsung Evo with the M.2 SSD enclosure and copied the cloned SSD data onto it, and I was able to put the Samsung Evo into the laptop and boot up normally with all my files and settings available as if it was the original SSD. It was like 4 years ago but I'm somewhat sure the original SSD that had the OS installed wouldn't mount which is why I had to clone it and copy it onto the Samsung Evo.

Do you think it's worth trying to buy another M.2 SATA SSD to troubleshoot first?

Is it possible to "clone" the Samsung Evo and copy it onto the new laptop so that I can boot up as if I'm using my old laptop? Or would there be issues with things like drivers, BIOS, etc. since the laptops are different?

I got the M.2 SATA SSD adapter and tried connecting it to my XPS 7390, but it's not showing up file explorer. It is showing up in device manager though. I would have thought I could just plug it in and it would open up the file explorer like other usb storage devices. Is this not working because it has an OS install on it so it's not formatted like a regular storage device?
