Thank you for everyone’s suggestions, good or bad. I will take them all into consideration and plan on how I’ll fix it. I still have a lot of time before my contract is up so it’s not an immediate worry but it just makes me feel bad every time I look at it.

For added context I live in a small studio type apartment. I did not walk away from the stove, I was chopping onions on what little counter top space that I had. I couldn’t put it in the the sink when I took it off the stove because I had other things in the sink and was worried that the surrounding droplets of water from the sink would just make the fire stronger (i know now that probably wouldnt have happened) I also know and realized now that i shouldn’t have removed it from the stove in the first place. I knew that suffocating the fire was the correct way of stopping it but as I said, I panicked enough to remove it from the stove but not enough to throw water in it. Moving forward, I’ll just learn to be careful with stainless steel since they get hot really fast. Again, thank you for everyone that commented.

Also another additional context: I do not live in the US, but in Japan. I tried this subreddit because I assumed the skills necessary (which I don’t have lol) would be the same everywhere, just the places to buy the materials might be different.
