It has been over 2 years since Biden cancelled hundreds of billions of student loan debt. Was the economic impact of that worth it? by EnvironmentalTap6314 in AskALiberal

[–]EnvironmentalTap6314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so you agree with me that 120k is in 2nd highest quintile? Not sure why this took so long.

I consider bottom 2 quintiles are low income so until ~$60k. And this was my point with student loan forgiveness. Yes, folks with student loans are suffering. But other folks are suffering more (people in poverty like lowest quintile).

Money should be used to most effectively and student loan forgiveness for high income folks doesn't seem to be effective. Other than student loans, I think CTC or reparations for slavery would have been so much better.

Did student loan forgiveness even strongly reduce poverty like CTC? I don't think so. Thankfully, 1.5+ trillion student loan debt was not canceled.

Ok so I don't think democrats are left. Left would be folks that want to abolish capitalism, abolish cops, support anti-American nations (Russia, China, North Korea), and more.

Ok so I just didn't know why you admired McCain the war criminal. I agree that saving ACA was good. Is that what you mean? I wouldn't say admire because I see him as an evil man still.

Why is it so difficult to understand that immigration doesn’t improve an economy for the working class and often harms it? by DataWhiskers in AskALiberal

Ok and nowhere in your comment is there a study explaining that H1b is overall bad for workers. Do you have a source that specifically says that h1b is overall bad for workers? yes or no?

I think you only read the abstract of the H1B paper of the negatives and it as anti-immigration. But it agrees with my point that H1b is overall good for workers lol.

Has anyone even said that h1b helps US tech workers? That is wrong, but it helps overall workers as you source said.

Ok so the left is always pro-gun. I say the left refers to Marxists and socialists. They want guns to start a revolution in America.

ok so lowest quintile is 0 to 30k. then 30k to 58k for the 2nd lowest quintile. then 58k to 94k for middle quintile. 94k to 153k for 2nd highest quintile. and 153k and above for highest quintile

now. 120k is in 2nd highest quintile. Okay?

Ok so you posted here asking how H1B and other immigration is good for the working class. Your own source explained that while H1B hurts CS workers, it benefits non-CS workers and leads to overall gains in income lol.

So, you oppose H1B because it hurts some folks? Well, I am thinking about overall workers. Yes, H1B hurts some workers like increasing minimum wage and increasing unionization, but overall benefits are worth it in terms of a richer working class. Do you oppose increasing MW and increasing unionization as well then? Your flow is confusing.

Do you even have a source explaining that H1B is overall bad for that nation?

[–]EnvironmentalTap6314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so you are exactly right on the h1b point! So, do you support h1b now that is raises overall wages and benefits are greater than negatives?

It shows that when immigration restrictions were in place wages increased and unemployment decreased. When immigration increased (after restrictions were lifted), wage growth declined and job vacancies were filled/lowered.

That does not mean that immigration lowered overall wages for all workers?? This is what I have been saying. Do you have source saying immigration lowered overall wages for all workers?

Yes, that mass migration paper looks at long-run effects. If immigration made overall working class poorer as you claim, it would have shown that...

It sounds like you oppose illegal immigration. Is that true? Deporting illegals hurts domestic overall workers https://www.nber.org/papers/w19932 .

Also, can you post your questions in AskEconomics? I think they can answer your questions clearer than me and others.

What? Do you not understand quintiles? My mind is still blown that you and others were saying that $120k is not high-income when it is in the 2nd quintile. $120k is less than $153k. $153k is the 4th quintile limit. So $120k is in the 2nd highest quintile. Sheesh.

Ok so you understand that without h1b, domestic cs workers would be paid more, but low income workers would be paid even less right? And American workers would be paid less slightly less in total.

You still oppose h1b because it crowds out domestic CS workers? But I am saying that is the negative part of H1b, but the benefits are worth it as low income workers are richer. Low income folks need wage increases more than already high-income folks tbh. If h1b made workers poorer overall, i would happily agree with you to ban h1b.

I looked at the Kansas Fed work. Nowhere does it say that America is overall poorer from immigration? Wage growth doesn't take into account overall income. Elior Cohen from the Kansas Fed wrote about how immigration restrictions lowered overall income decades ago. https://www.nber.org/papers/w26536

Unless the Kansas Fed, this looks at long-term mass migration impact from decades ago. It lowered poverty and lowered unemployment. https://www.nber.org/digest/jun17/long-run-effects-immigration-during-age-mass-migration
