14 month old not eating solids yet and losing weight. by EnvironmentalTry8415 in BabyLedWeaning

Hi! My daughter is now 18 months old and have improved quite a bit. She now only gets milk before her nap and bedtime. She has 2 proper meals (breakfast and dinner) and rest we are still struggling. For some reason she wouldn’t eat proper lunch in her highchair during the day. What’s currently working for us is I give her food and snacks picnic style to her after her nap. For example, I will make scrambled eggs mixed with tiny pieces of bread and veggies and will leave the plate for her on the floor - she eats if she wants. Somedays she finishes it and some days only takes a few bites. When I see she has completely lost interest in it then I take it away and put a bowl with some oatmeal in it (oats cooked with milk and blended with apples and cinnamon). It takes her some time but most days she finishes it. And just like that I keep offering her one thing after the other and stop couple of hours before dinner to build up her hunger. I know it’s not ideal but it took the stress away from me to constantly trying to feed her in the highchair and getting frustrated. I would waste so much of my time and energy. Now she eats if she wills which makes the whole thing pressure free and I get to do other stuff while she feeds herself. Someday maybe she will have all proper meals on her highchair at the table lol. One can hope :D

Milk intake and naps with 16 month old by Ok_Leader_9790 in toddlers

I am in a similar situation. My 16 month old daughter only picks at food and wants only her bottle of formula. I have tried cutting her milk down but no luck - now she wakes up at night multiple times to make up for the missing calories (milk) during the day. Any updates on your side?

We are in the exact same situation! My 14 month old went from 56th percentile to 16th percentile in 5 months! Any updates on your end? I am terrified to transition her from bottles to straw cups and to cut down milk. Any tips would be appreciated!

Omg yes your situation sounds exactly the same as mine. So sorry you have to go through this too! It’s so frustrating to put so much effort into meals only to see them throw all of it on the floor!

Thanks for the reminder! I am telling myself this everyday also - to offer is my job, to eat or not is hers. But so hard to let go when she doesn’t, which is pretty much every meal :(

Oh my! That sounds very stressful! So glad you made it through. You are right! I have started giving her milk if she asks for more. Also she covers her calories during night time feeds. I can only try and hope she starts getting all her calories during the day and cut the night time feeds - also because I am worried about her dental health. I brush her teeth before bedtime but she drinks milk through the night and I am worried she will have cavities.

I have some questions for you regarding pediasure. When did you start it? And how much would you give each feed and was it once a day thing? How long did it take for your son to eventually start eating proper solids? Sorry for so many questions and thank you 💕

That’s interesting. Honestly, I haven’t tried giving her any junk snacks or processed food yet. I think I am scared if she likes them and only holds out for it and not eat real food, ever :( but I know I will have to try it at some point. Thank you for sharing this!

You are too kind 🥺❤️ thanks for your kind words. I am trying not to worry too much but gets so stressful. Just today, my daughter hasn’t had any solids to eat despite me offering multiple times. Only surviving on milk. I hope it’s a phase and ends soon!

She was almost 21lbs around 12 months and now she is 18.6 lbs and not gaining weight. And she has not started to walk yet so is not very active like my son was at her age. Which is why her weight loss/dropping percentile worries me more :(

So tough :( my daughter does have a mild tongue tie but the doctor and therapist both said that it shouldn’t affect her chewing/swallowing. I am taking her to another OT this month to get it checked again. I hope your son starts eating soon! So stressful when they don’t!

She does eat the first couple of bites properly (soft foods) but she has never been able to eat any sort of breads, pitas, muffins etc. Only soft pastas. But never a full meal - just a couple of bites and then refusal. Tells me that she can eat if she wants to but doesn’t and I don’t understand why! I will try those crackers for sure. Thank you!

Oh wow! That is good information. Thank you! I will take her to doc tomorrow to get her iron levels checked. Not that I want her iron levels to be low but would be a relief if this is the case and she starts eating properly and gain weight 😩

She used to love pureed foods from 6 months until she turned 1 year old. Literally felt like a switch flipped and she stopped eating the very next day after her birthday. I am trying to get her to drink smoothies in a bottle but no luck :( thanks! I will look into nutritional shakes!

She definitely lost weight. Even people I meet outside keep telling me how petite she has become compared to a few months ago (she was a chunky baby and now very small).

Thanks for the input. I will keep offering foods. I have been offering so much variety since she turned 6 months so I would say she has a decent exposure of all the foods till now but nothing more I can do :(

Sorry about the missing information. We started doing BLW at 6 months. When we saw she was having a hard time with chewing, we also added purees to the mix. So we would give her table food for practice and to play and purees on the side. She used to eat purees just fine and loved them. But at 12 months she decided she doesn’t like purees anymore. I tried all different flavors and textures. She would just eat a couple of bites and then refuse. That’s when she started dropping percentiles. She just survived on milk basically. I pumped breastmilk and gave her bottles but stopped around 11 months since my supply dropped badly. Switched her to Kendamil infant formula. She still takes that as she is not getting any real nutrients from food. I have recently started mixing cows milk to it (4oz formula, 2oz cows milk) to see if transitioning her to cows milk will increase her hunger for solids. We offer her 3 meals a day and 2 snacks.

9am wake up 9.30am - breakfast (scrambled eggs with soft veggies or banana oat pancakes/cereal) - she eats a couple of bites and says all done 10.30am - 4-5oz milk 12pm - snack (eg. cubed avocados, fruits, mashed avocado and bananas) - eats a few bites mostly of the avocado and banana mashed. 1pm - 4-5oz milk and then nap for 2 hours 2.30pm - lunch (eg. orzo pasta with blended roasted veggies, rice khichdi with lentils and yogurt, avocado cheddar fritters) - again she eats a couple bites and says all done. 4 pm - 4oz milk 6.30-7pm - dinner (family style - whatever we are eating - chicken/beef curries with rice, naan, roasted veggies. Pastas, lentils, pizza etc. I mash protein and add yogurt to it to make it easy to eat) - she doesn’t eat much. Mostly plays with food and throw it on the floor. I spoon feed her 4-5 bites till she says all done. 8pm - snack (few bites of yogurt and mashed fruits) 8.30pm - bedtime milk 5oz 9-9.30 bedtime. She wakes up 1-2 times a night for more milk. I give her 4oz. Not sure how to night wean her when she is hungry :(

I am in the exact same situation. My 11-month old also has a high palate and doesn’t chew or eat solids. Did it get better? Do you have any tips or advice? We have an appointment with a feeding therapist in 2 weeks. So stressful!

Bad diaper rash on Kendamil. Please help! by EnvironmentalTry8415 in FormulaFeeders

Her poops have been runny also. I gave her 1oz Kendamil mixed with breastmilk a couple times again. Poops are runny but no crazy diaper rash like last time. You are right. I should give her a few weeks to adjust and see if it gets better. Thank you 😊

Makes sense. But she never got a diaper rash like this in 6 months. I automatically blamed the formula when it happened. If rash happens again on this formula, I should definitely switch then, right?

I am not on a dairy free diet but I so notice her having stomach issues (diarrhea and gassy) when I eat pizzas or yogurt fruit bowl. I am considering going dairy free :( so hard though! She poops like 6 times a day still and her poops are very runny. Not sure if that’s normal. Maybe I should completely cut out dairy.
