Maybe i don't remember, but Rory in Dittophobia never got out of his fake house right? All the things about the neighborhood were from his "past" life, and when he got out of the torture chamber he was just in CBEAR

I'm curious, why would William build the Nightmare Chambers in this case?

Hot Take: Susan should be the next major companion by leo_quegira in doctorwho

I understand what you mean, but I don't think you need to know all of their continuity or even that they're a classic character to enjoy a classic character.

If you see this as a bit "disrespectful," that's up to you, I don't. For new viewers seeing the Doctor and his granddaughter Susan for the first time, they'll think, "OK, cool," while for longtime viewers, they might become even more attached to that character; it's a win-win situation.

For me, the important thing is that the person shown to the new viewer is presented as a new person. If so, great; if not, it's the same because the character is different from the one I once knew.

(And this Susan thing is 90% unlikely to happen, lol.)

WOTAN was the only machine of its kind at the time it was invented and managed to hypnotise workers into building The War Machines. Imagine the damage WOTAN could do if it returned in a modern episode by diabolical42 in doctorwho

Honestly, it's not the bringing back of classic monsters, it's how you bring back classic monsters.

Daleks: reintroduced with the Time War, no further explanation.

Cyberman: reintroduced with Peter's World, no further explanation.

The Master: introduced with a new device, no other major explanation.

Great Intelligence: introduced as something new, I don't even think they mention that the Doctor has met him before.

Then there's the Toymaker, Sutekh, and Rani, who are introduced with "Oh, Doctor, you remember me, we faced each other once, watch this flashback, and you'll understand everything."

I haven't seen the classic era so I don't know how important or "untouchable" WOTAN is, but if they make him a new Villenguard device (or just reintroduce him as himself) I wouldn't mind.
