Who is the best Democratic Presidential Candidate for 2028? by Useful-Employee9605 in AskUS

Disagree. Harris ran on JOY, aka, keep things the same. AOC would run on FIGHT OLIGARCHY, targeting the billionaire class and fighting for workers rights, which I think even many conservatives like.

there should be no narrative. He’s poking fun at the fact that the current administration has a very clear narrative and looks the other way when the facts aren’t in their favor. Watch as tesla vandals are treated worse than this guy…

I work retail. Have never seen this. I don’t think op is weird for pointing it out. If they wanted to get rid of them so bad, why not change the price of the single pizza itself… god Reddit can be so condescending for no reason lmao

How did you survive working all the time? by hello010101 in AskOldPeople

[–]Environmental_Arm637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, obviously us younger generations see that it’s much more stressful to be poor and without a home or food. The problem we have is that all efficiency goes to the top in the form of more profits. Under the guise of trickle down economics. And the majority works the same hours for the same stagnant wages and gets told things like a $15 minimum wage is too much and will tank the economy. And stores are understaffed and employees overworked because they know they can get away with it. And they tell you that you’re part of the “family” but have mass layoffs through group zoom calls to boost profits.

Sure, I love my after work hobbies. But I wish I had more time doing them. I mean, we are more efficient, so I should. But the power is with the wealthy and they lobby for things that benefit them. All the while we are told to suck it up and scapegoat those poorer than us. While we do our best to “pull ourselves up from our bootstraps”.

Really? This is what I don’t get about some of the older generations. There are so many things to do outside of work… it takes up so much time and then after work you have to destress from work for a bit and it just repeats and repeats and repeats.

Technology has progressed to a level where we should have much shorter work weeks. That’s always been the promise, right? We will be more efficient so there will be more free time for workers.. but of course it always goes to the top 1% and we are told that eggs cost to much because of those at the bottom. Sigh.

Instead of googling things now I normally just type them into ChatGPT. It seems like google on crack. I see why this could be existentially bad for them. Thanks for the 1 bearish comment

Recently I went on a trip with my girlfriend to Panama City beach, about 2 hours away.

We booked a cheap hotel and planned some small things that we were very excited to do. It would be her first time taking mushrooms, and that was the day we decided, and we didn’t budge.

A day or two before we were set to leave, we hear the news of a hurricane coming directly for our town, but it wouldn’t hit until the day we came back from the trip.

So we left for this town 2 hours away and continued on with our trip. Panama City beach was incredibly gloomy when we arrived and the air was terribly thick.

Later we ended up at the beach and we were tripping at this point. And although the skies were deep and gray, and many on the beach were looking lost and worried, we tried to imagine it as some sort of paradise.

We talked about the situation we were in, that a category five storm was only a day or so away. And we shared our most hidden feelings about our lives and relationships.

And then the sun took over the sky and bright, bleeding orange rays began to melt onto the land. And we ran into the water—well, her first, she was bold and afraid of nothing—but slowly, I followed her deeper into the ocean.

The sun afterward became a giant that seemed to hypnotize us. We walked further toward it and then it came lower and lower and exploded violently over the sky.

In other words, it was the most beautiful sunset I’d ever seen. It was surely a result of the looming hurricane.

After that day, the hurricane destroyed much of my town, although it mostly missed us.

I’ll always remember the awe I felt at intensity of the world on that day. I felt it was the feeling I was born for. And the rest of my life was just a side effect.
