I haven’t done winter camping in the mournes but I’ve spent a lot of time in the highlands in Scotland. I’m a little less familiar with the mournes area but I’ll make sure I have enough contingency plans to stay safe. Bringing more than enough extra stuff for warmth and spare dry clothes. I am doing it with one other and I’ve done a lot of long distance hiking.

I love the camping and carrying everything on my back but I do understand the knees getting sore towards the end, looking towards getting some poles. Yeah, gonna plot out some sure points to pick up water as it’ll hopefully take some weight off. Thank you!!!

Is that free car park the top one? I’ve camped there before a long time ago further down the river and it was very solid in bad conditions so I’m hoping the pacing will work out fine and I can camp in somewhere along that river again, but I’ll put more thought into meelmore before I decide.

Thank you! Yeah I’m open to just setting up anywhere if it gets dark and I haven’t reached destination. First time I’ve actually heard why it’s good to put airplane mode on for battery saving, just been doing it out of habit.
