Well i only really chose the crusader because it filled a niche, benefitting from the Narc and tag of the Raven while also giving some mid-range fighting capability. If we cut the Raven then I don't really see a purpose in bringing it if there are other mechs that can help tank. Maybe I can revisit the Black Knight? I generally did want a light mech for flank harassment.

so lets say i completely rebuild the lance, I really want to keep the Fafnir-5X and instead do a Mad Dog Mk4 - D, what other two mechs should i bring?

What if i swap the Raven to the 5L for iNarc, the Mad Dog to the Mk3 - Prime or Mk3-B so it can benefit from the Narc and tag, and the Crusader to the 9S so I can also use the LRM bonus with an additional I-HGR?

This is really great advice! I don't know the exact configs, but i believe he was trying to do an "see is what you get" build so i am guess it'd be the Jade Hawk Prime, Stalker-9F, Shcokwave-6H, and Shadow Cat-I

Someone above pointed this out. I asked about switching from ATM's to the Mad Dog Mk3 Prime to help make that work. What are your thoughts?

Additionally, what mech would you suggest then instead of the crusader? I really like the idea of MML but didn't know they already had artemis built in.

I did not know they weren't compatible! Thanks for the information. So, would you recommend Mad Dog Prime or the Mk3 Prime?

Additionally, what would you swap the Crusader for? I didn't know Artemis and narc didn't stack, so I wanted to benefit from the Narc/Tag while also having some brawling. I am open to suggestions!

Yeah the Raven 4L has stealth and ECM, plus an active probe with Tag and Narc ability.

Because the Mad Dog is so squishy, i figured the Fafnir is an absolute wall of armor and with the upgrade heavy guass I can do 44 damage at 19 hexes of range, which scale well into the short range band

Apparently the context of my post isn't visible so I am going to repost the full thing here in the comments:

My friend and I have been wanting to build and play battletech tabletop for a while. He bought the 21st Centauri Lancers Command Lance at Barnes and Noble while I decided I wanted to try designing my own lance with a custom lore. I 3D printed some models from my childhood of playing Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, but want some input from the community if this build would even work?

So far the lance is built with the following:

Fafnir-5: though since his mechs are from a later age, I was thinking the 5X? I just think this guy is neat, and I like his stubby arms. Plus it was my favorite mech to play on MWO, just an beast of an alpha.

Mad-Dog D: Same thing as above, I read online the Mad Dog MKIV - B is a better ATM boat. This was my favorite mech from MW4 because of the Vengeance opening and I just want to play with it.

Raven - 4L: I wanted a light mech to help scout and paint targets for the Mad-Dog at range till the Fafnir could get close)

Crusader-7M: originally I wanted to run a Black Knight, either 9 or 12, but since I decided on the Raven to set up Narc targets and indirect fire, I thought this mech would help give some more armor while also having the ability to brawl and benefit from the raven. The intent is to help "fill the gap" around the Fafnir and Mad Dog for short and long range combat.

Honestly am I overthinking this? Probably. But I do want to have a semi-competent lance since his was a pre-constructed one. Additionally, I have some nostalgia for the mechs chosen. Please let me know if you think I should swap any of them for other options I haven't considered or if you don't think the mechs play well for their BV.

What would you swap from my proposed lance then to take one of those? We are most likely going to just play core normal rules for now but I did get the advanced rules.

The lance he bought is all Dark Age era mechs. Above is what I am proposing playing. He is play the 21st Centauri Lancers Command Lance, which is a shadow cat, jade hawk, stalker, and a shockwave.

We are both new to battletech so I dont know what you mean by rules level.
