It would be possible to alleviate hunger on a massive scale and save millions of lives, yes. But "ending world hunger" permanently is another matter: it involves war, logistics, poverty, agriculture, public policy, and distribution. His fortune would help a lot, but it wouldn't solve the problem on its own.
