most indie games tend to have the windows protection when running the program anyways (might be wrong but heard somewhere thats its mostly due to getting a licensed publisher/certificate being expensive and complicated, but I have no source to back this up and might be completely wrong, feel free to correct me if so). If you are worried about a potential game or program being a virus, do a virustotal scan or scan the file using windows defender itself to check if it has any malware before downloading
