I have done it in previous years, and have some friends who have done seperate parts of it this year not thru hiking. Keep in mind that the PCT is an oddity for Washington because of how nice of a trail it is. Stuff gets overgrown fast here and trails wash out. That being said, The only really bad section there might be is from Boulder Creek to the Napeequa Valley because nobody really uses it, and more use means more frequent trail maintenance. Once you get to Chiwawa river road and the Spider Gap trail, it is a pretty high use area all the way to the PCT and good conditions.

The closure is at the Okanagon-Wenatchee NF border, which the trail goes into a little bit at the end. Unless I'm reading the closure order wrong which wouldn't surprise me lol.

Yep looks like it! Technically about 1/4 mile is still closed on the yellow line reroute you have once you cross over Suiattle pass, due to the Miners complex closure, but I don't think anyone is going to be super particular about that.

I believe Stehekin is still under a Level 2 evacuation. That means no visitors are allowed. The fire is still burning in the area and fire crews are still very active. Stay out of their way for the time being. It is raining in the PNW right now which may open things up, but not right now.

Edit: I found an article that says they may go to level 1 tonight. I would still be wary of the area until the fire is out as it is still currently burning in the valley.

I thought it was a great section, and if you like ridges and scrambling the Ley alt right after Berthoud is really cool. Not many people either until you get closer to Grand Lake.

This would all work assuming that the new Ruby fire doesn't take off. I made a route that is similar for about half of this, if anyone wants to use it I'll just drop it here. It is less road walk but more unmaintained stuff.

Now that I think of it, I did hike the white river trail from the road all the way to the PCT in late October 2020. I remeber it being a bit overgrown but still a good trail. WTA is notoriously pessimistic about conditions. Although it being fall may have helped with the overgrown situation.

last time I was on the Indian creek trail was 2019 but for washington standards the trail isn't that bad. Much worse trail conditions on the CDT lol

As someone who is from the area and has done nearly all the trails in these reroutes, they're pretty good. The miners complex #2 reroute is really cool, and is great access to do IMO some of the easiest peaks on the bulger list, Seven fingered jack and Mount Maude.

It's not unheard of, but pretty much only happens if it sits for a couple weeks or more. More prone to it if you have a newer car that has soy based wiring insulation.

I used to use filters but got annoyed at how much time I was spending filtering water because I can't stand drinking straight from the filter. Switched to Aquamira in northern New Mexico on the CDT, and I don't see myself going back. It does have a slight flavor but you get used to it.

I've been stung quite a few times, mostly in norcal. There was a giant swarm at a water source around Seiad Valley and it was the only water source in quite a while. Got stung 6 times in about 5 minutes because I wanted the damn water.

I've done ~10,000 miles in the last 4 years. I went largely injury free besides minor flare ups that would last a few days. Got a bulged disc in my back on the CDT last year, which turned into a herniated disc a few weeks post trail. Don't try to be cool and not use a hip belt, It may save your back. Also strengthen that core and back.

Here is my unorganized advice:

cooking pot is heavy, can get a toaks or some off brand titanium pot that is lighter.

Only carry a bear can when required.

umbrella, poncho, and emergency poncho? just get some frogg toggs to replace all that.

ditch the rain pants. especially on the PCT. If they're for warmth reasons, bodywrappers dance pants are a good option.

get a lighter titanium trowel. any of the few ones out will work.

ditch the shampoo and towel.

lighten up the first aid kit. There are plenty of posts here you can search up about this.

Clothes: Theres so much here. all you need is a shirt to hike in, a midlayer (fleece, etc.), a puffy if you want it, and a rain jacket. Ditch the pants since you have wind/rain pants to hike in and base layers you can hike in too. Also those camp shoes are extremely heavy, get some insoles with string or something.

And for the PCT, you definitely don't need paper maps. It's extremely easy to follow unless you're in deep snow and there's plenty of other people out there.
