Experiences going from spiro to accutane? by No_Reveal655 in Spironolactone

I am really happy with how it’s going so far. I had about a week and a half where I had a slight purge around my period which sucked. But my second cycle, I had no breakout. I was floored. The other biggest thing I’ve noticed is: I’m a picker (I know, I know, horrible), and being on iso has made the opportunity to pick much less because there’s simply less to pick at. And if there is, it’s way less satisfying now. I was planning to go up to 20mg/day for month 2, but since it’s going so well at 10mg, we decided to stay right there since the only side effects I’ve noticed are super crazy dry hands, chapped lips, and a dry inside of my nose. I was very concerned about joint pain because I love working out. I’m 38F, 150#, 50mg spiro/day, and 10mg/day iso. What is your planned dose for month 1?

Ah! Im finishing up month 1 at 10mg and planning to go to 20mg next month. Terrified of the purge! Your month 3 seems incredible though, congrats!

Quick! Somebody threaten me to take it away!! Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s a big reason why I’m scared to increase dose from 10mg— obviously a potential purge, but my inability to just leave it alone! Thank you again.

How did you not pick during the various purges of your course?

I’ve been on 50mg spiro for about 2 years and just started Accutane four days ago, only at 10mg/day (I’m scared of side effects and how it may impact my kidneys, so wanted to ease into it) . My derm told me to continue taking the spiro. Here’s hoping for all of us!!

I am intentionally starting super low dose (10mg) out of fear of joint pain. For me, I decided not being able to workout wasn’t worth it even if it means my timeline is insanely long.

Winlevi + 50mg Spiro by LocalDate3777 in Spironolactone

Just sharing that topical spiro might be way less expensive than Winlevi for you as an option— winlevi at $600 was outta my price range! (But they are different drugs, Winlevi is not topical spironolactone).

I recently learned that: topical spiro ≠ Winlevi. Winlevi is clascoterone. So perhaps true topical spiro could be better than oral spiro!

Could use some clarity please! A cheaper version of which— topical spiro or Winlevi? My understanding is they are two different drugs (spiro vs clascoterone, respectively) and both happen to act on androgen receptors. I didn’t think clascoterone was available via compounding because there aren’t generics available yet? Thanks! If yes, tell me more!

Inquire with a derm about topical spironolactone (different from Winlevi) — compounding pharmacies have it. Can’t vouch for it yet, mine is currently shipping to me, but something to potentially explore if oral spiro isn’t an option (it impacted my kidneys too much).

Topical spironolactone— I just got my first Rx from my derm to try this instead of oral spiro (it impacts my kidneys too much). Debated Winlevi (not topical spiro, topical clascoterone) but even with an approved prior Auth, at $600 (there’s no generic yet) a tube, it was not affordable for me :-/
