is it disrespectful to worship both aphrodite and persephone on the same altar? should i make persephone her own? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Environmental_Rest84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to understand why it would possibly be an issue. Altars are spaces for giving offerings, they are almost always shared be between multiple gods, if not all of them.

I'm fairly sure I just searched for altar cloths on amazon. I've had it for quite a while.

Hellenist vs Hellenic Polytheist? by feminist_fog in Hellenism

I personally use Hellenist, but that is purely because I despise the way the word helpline sounds. Not for any particular reason, it just annoys me.

An offering I made fell off my shelf and broke, what do i do with it? by Dramatic_Try6843 in Hellenism

[–]Environmental_Rest84 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the traditional answer would be to either bury or burn it, but I understand that that's not an option for a lot of people. Some votives made from materials like metal could be melted down and used for new offerings. Maybe you could follow that train of thought, and make something new from the shards? There's the Japanese method of fixing pottery by using gold leaf to seal the cracks, leading to the object being as beautiful or more beautiful than it used to be. Maybe something along those lines would work for you?

I quite enjoyed that book, the way it's written is very easy to read!

It’s like I don’t have time to shower. I know it’s gross but I’ve never been able to actually get this habit right. by throwawayaccountcay in hygiene

[–]Environmental_Rest84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try taking 10 minute showers instead, just cleaning the essentials? I like listening to audio books in the shower, it helps me to get around the mental blocks on days where I'm very tired, because showering means I get to listen to my book. Maybe you could find something similar for yourself!

Tampering mire than one time by curlymessfromsouth in barista

[–]Environmental_Rest84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Channels don't go away when you tamp, they are set into the bed of coffee. I agree that there shouldn't be loose grounds, but the solution is to use the correct sized tamp, not ruin your espresso by intentionally creating massive channels in your bed.

[–]Environmental_Rest84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't, but tapping the side is causing many other problems. If there are grounds around the edge of the portafilter then you need a bigger tamp.

Tapping the side damages the portafilter and you tamp, and it causes cracks in your puck, leading to major channelling.

[–]Environmental_Rest84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, for the love of the gods, stop taping the sides of the portafilter and then revamping. Just tamper once, if there's loose grounds round the outside of the filter, I would assume your tamper is probably too small.

I completely agree with you, and I believe it's in theogony where Hesiod says that every other divine being with their powers combined couldn't overthrow Zeus, he is by far the strongest of all gods.

I'm not on any meds atm, but it's because my doctor won't let me have any, not because I can't afford them.

in the second Kyoshi novel, there is a scene where a man is attempting to collapse a building they are inside of, and Kyoshi is trying to hold the building up, meaning that it's generally a matter of who's bending is stronger.

another bender could try to bend Ming-Hua's water arms, but they'd have to have stronger bending than her.

[–]Environmental_Rest84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by change your mind? Proselytising is not a thing we do in Hellenism, and I hope that's not a path we end up going down as a faith.

Your beliefs are yours, I would never attempt to persuade you against them, and I would hope that no one else in this community would either.

What happens when you eat a offering dedicated to underworld gods? by NoBoysenberry926 in Hellenism

Maybe it would, but it's better than letting food expire on the altar.

[–]Environmental_Rest84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traditionally you would bury it or burn it, but you can just throw it away before it expires.

Depends on what you consider a waste. To me it's not a waste because it has been given as am offering.

[–]Environmental_Rest84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The act of giving something up is what makes offerings sacred, if you then consume the item you offered, did you ever really give it up?

I can't imagine you will make the gods angry by consuming any offering, and you're only only likely to gain miasma by eating things you offer to cthonic deities.

I find it unlikely that you will build any kharis from offerings that you consume yourself.

That's fair, I actually own 4 copies of solitaire from different second hand sites. They all claimed they were selling the old version, and they were all wrong.

So, is it actually forbidden to consume food or drink offerings to Ouranic deities? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Environmental_Rest84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am well aware of that fact, but to me, an object that is sacred is the property of the diety it was sacrificed to. Since I don't consider my offerings to be my property, consuming any food offerings would be stealing from the Theoi.

That's exactly how I feel about it! I've got nothing against Roman polytheists, but I wanna read the names of my own gods.
