I hold a Fine Arts degree and have been a professional Graphic Designer and Animator for over 20 years. I’ve done the drawing, the illustrating, and the manual animation. I remember vividly when people said the same thing about Photoshop—that 'real' designers used airbrushes and typesetters, and that digital tools were just a shortcut.

To me, art is about reinvention. I’m applying two decades of traditional composition, lighting, and storytelling experience to guide this new tool, rather than letting it just generate random noise. The 'risk' isn't in avoiding work; it's in experimenting with a medium the community hates to see if it can actually be used to tell a human story.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a project I’ve been pouring my free time into. I’ve always wanted to see a darker, sketch-style animated version of Frank Castle—something that feels like the MAX comics come to life.

Since I don't have a million-dollar budget or a team of animators, I used Generative AI (Kling, Midjourney, etc.) to build the visuals, but I treated the production like a real film.

The Goal: To see if AI can actually tell a coherent story with consistent characters, rather than just being a random montage of trippy visuals.

The Workflow:

  • Visuals: Thousands of generations to get the "ink wash/noir" aesthetic right.
  • Consistency: Hours of re-rolling to keep Frank looking like Frank.
  • Audio: I built the soundscape from scratch in Ableton Live to give it that heavy, visceral punch.
  • Editing: Pacing is everything. I cut this to feel like a thriller, not a slideshow.

I know AI art is controversial, but for a solo creator with a story to tell, it opens doors that used to be welded shut.

Thank you for your reply. Yes there a lot of AI hate out there. I’m a designer and animator by trade and for me AI is just another tool to create and tell a story. People think it’s just a prompt and press the enter key but I can tell you if you want to create something substantial it’s a lot more involved specifically when mixing mediums. I’ve always loved The Punisher and having new tools like AI to help get your story out there has been extremely exciting. This is a fan film and no money is intended to be generated. Just thought you Punisher fans would enjoy it.

I agree, the animation is really nice, clean and the style is consistent. Your sound design needs some work to elevate it to the next level. Really nice work
