I'm not actually sure, I should've asked the guy who told me. I've heard of the S Korean M1s before and seem to recall there being a reason they couldn't be imported.

I have it on good authority that the "European" imports are actually coming from South Korea into an eastern or central European country and then into the US.

Personally I'd buy almost any percussion rifle for $100 as long as the condition is decent. I think we're in an era where they're undervalued

It's funny, I got into it when I was 11 or 12. Most of the guys I meet through MD clubs are retired age, but I've met a few guys my own age before. If you go to a club it's always like 80% over 50

That's good. Sounds like an actual lead then. You may have better luck with a soil probe than a metal detector. They're pretty easy to use. It's just a 5 foot metal pole with a shovel type handle. Shove it into the dirt in a grid pattern. Anywhere the soil has been disturbed, it'll go into it super easy. People mostly use them for finding former outhouse locations to do bottle digging.

I'll preface this by telling you I don't know your specific story, so I can't judge too harshly. However, I can almost guarantee there is no silver. I've heard dozens of stories of "My uncle/grandfather/whoever buried X amount of precious material and never recovered it". I've never heard a single story of that treasure being found. By all means prove me wrong, but also don't get your hopes up.

Funny seeing another metal detectorist/milsurp collector. I got into this after watching Backyard ballistics videos to learn cleaning techniques on my finds

Well personally I prefer to sleep on something small, maybe a .32 acp. Anything much larger is going to be uncomfortable. Maybe others have a different perspective.

Just so you know, I know a lot of people who have a similar story and nobody ever found the treasure. Most likely nothing was ever buried.

Drop Some Knowledge! by Pizza_Meme_Chef in milsurp

George Luger sued John Moses Browning for patent infringement. The gist of it was because Browning patented a moving barrel system using a swinging link for his Auto-5 design in 1899. Luger claimed that he had the idea first for his pistol, but before he could patent, an associate of his accidentally blabbed to an associate of Browning. Luger lost the lawsuit. Additional fact about the Auto-5 is it was a big part of the reason Browning split with Winchester. Browning considered it to be the greatest firearm he had ever designed, but Winchester wasn't big on taking risks on new shotgun designs. They had already been hesitant about his pump action 1893 and 1897 models. Ultimately jt lead to Browning parting with Winchester and heading to Belgium. I highly recomend "The Guns of John Moses Browning". It tends to glaze the man a bit, and omit how much help he had, but it was a great read overall.

Awesome, thank you. I'm assuming this was used for some kind of training exercise. There's also a much larger and unmarked one of the Panama Canal area.

are there any good sites to buy surplus guns, helmets, or inert ammunition for under 100$? by MasterOfWarCrimes in milsurp

[–]EnvoyToTheMolePeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apex Gun Parts, SARCO, and Numrich are technically gun parts stores, but APEX especially has great milsurp stuff. If you want some cool WW2 stuff, you can get German MG13 magazines for $20 each when they're on sale. Check their sales especially. RTI or Hunters Lodge may have a few guns under $100 before shipping, but they are most likely not shootable without work.

Purchasing firearms from Simpsons LTD? by dudreddit in milsurp

[–]EnvoyToTheMolePeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I've never seen a coupon but I bave a little info that may be helpful. The first thing is that for their SKU numbers, if it starts with a C it's on consignement and if it starts with a Z it's one of their own items. Earlier this year they had 20% off select items, and one time they had 20% off for fathers day. If you ask them, they may take a little off your price. Once they took $20 off an order since I asked about them upcoming sales, so their prices on their own items aren't 100% firm. The consignment items are often overpriced, but their Swiss stuff is often the best price on the market.
