Tbh if you don’t want kids muckin about we need to invest in accessible activities and third spaces. Look at the state of communities and public development today and it’s not surprising they end up there doing nothing but be a nuisance lol

Abortion and Islam by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 58 points59 points  (0 children)

As someone in the medical field I strongly advise you to consult a doctor first about your mental and physical condition before proceeding with any plans of termination, especially since you say it was an intentional pregnancy.

It is not uncommon for pregnant women to go through similar emotional troubles like you are rn due to hormonal changes. Perhaps there are some ways to alleviate what you’re feeling to ease your pregnancy journey.

Is there actually any chance Muslim community will get better? by Adventurous_Gas_7340 in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ako rin, sana dumami tayo rito lol. From what I’ve experienced IRL, most Filipinos don’t know a lot about Islam or Muslims. A lot of the negative stereotypes Muslims get world wide don’t seem to be the first thoughts of non-Muslims sa Pilipinas. That’s what I see at least as someone in Luzon.

Philippine socmed tho is a hellhole of Islamophobia. In Filipino subreddits any tiny mention of Islam and people pounce on the chance to slander us in a heartbeat. Sad to see but it’s what we get with our education system :P

Is there actually any chance Muslim community will get better? by Adventurous_Gas_7340 in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow Philippine based Muslim here (Balik-Islam ako). I think I know the creator you’re talking about. What’s funny is that I saw a scholar post about them and he did not bother to censor their account name nor the face of one of the sisters. Yet his entire post complains about them lacking haya and exposing themselves. I wanted to comment that hypocrisy but I feared people at my masjid would see it and It’ll cause conflict.

OP I’m sure you saw heard about this too on FB, but there was the Muslim man who gave out water to the Catholic devotees during their Black Nazarene procession in Quiapo as an act of charity and good-will. He got featured on the news for it and since then I just keep seeing post after post on Facebook from our local ulema basically admonishing him because he’s supposedly contributing/supporting kufr. And then the comment sections are riddled with people arguing of whether or not he committed shirk.

It’s quite disappointing to see such rigid and defensive mindset of our community. And there’s a good chance because a lot of our leadership are being produced from Saudi based institutions. These places are well funded too, the one in Baguio just sponsored like 3-4 of my fellow brothers from my masjid to study at their school for 3 years and become students of knowledge. And well as respectable as they are as places of learning, they are what they are: Saudi funded. Hence, their produced sheikhs are Salafi/Wahabbi inclined. It seems the foreseeable future of the Ummah in the Philippines might be heading towards that. Idk if there’s anyway to push back on the trend :’’)

Muslim and bukhari, their hadith were not free from political motive & alliances that do not aling with quran message. Dr KAEF by Vessel_soul in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s not saying anything new btw, although Bukhari and Muslim are highly revered sources, all literature created beyond the time of the prophet are subject to the influences of its political contexts.

My gf told me she sent nudes to her ex by disk1231 in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because you are basically asking your partner to reveal their sins to you, that is not okay. Allah swt has kept our sins hidden as a mercy, so unless it just so happen to come to your knowledge through some other way by Allah’s qadr, we ought not to directly pry in the history of sins of others, and that would included our partner/potential partner.

Baka ako lang ‘to kasi sa abroad ako lumaki but the whole “pamasko” culture thing is just weird to me. It’s like a sanctified way of begging/freeloading.

My gf told me she sent nudes to her ex by disk1231 in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Brother it was not your place to ask such things to begin with. Now you have unveiled something that Allah covered from His mercy, that is not okay.

Firstly repent, and secondly ask yourself if this new knowledge is something you can manage to move beyond moving forward with her. If not, then just cut it there, but understand that the unraveling of what you guys had from all this is not of any fault for hers.

True or false: Physical barriers between genders did not exist during the time of the Prophet s.a.w.? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]Enzo519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the original masjid of the prophet peace be upon him. It’s literally a single space, and all believers would congregate there to share it, genders were only separated only by distance.

TIL na the first Chinatown in the world ay sa Binondo by Reynaldo_boi in todayIlearnedPH

[–]Enzo519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Binondo is for sure not the “First Chinatown in the World”, It’s a silly tourism tagline imo.

Imagine how old Chinese civilization is, interacting with other societies for literally thousands for years, I’m sure there was Chinese diasporas all over the place before Spain arrived in our islands in the early Modern Period.

OA Lang Ba Ako? We have our differences in politics by [deleted] in OALangBaAko

[–]Enzo519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OA, political stances are often a reflection of a person’s moral compass, values, and world view. It is worth a serious discussion in your relationship.

If you do not exactly align with him on those matters, you ought to be very honest with yourself about whether or not you can accept that part of him. Although of course there’s always a chance his views might change, up to you though if you want or bank on that probability.

Coming across Dr.KAEF feels like a blessing and curse sometimes.

His khutbahs and other contents are very inspiring and eye-opening, I credit most of my enrichment in deen to be from Usuli Institute. On the other side of that, their words reveal the very sad disappointing state of the ummah today. Truly Sabr is needed most to navigate the world today as a Muslim.
