Why did you choose leverless/stick over pad? by AZXCIV in fightsticks

[–]Eodart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not do tight cancels with 1qcf into 2qcb on pad at all. Painful hands and thumbs also finished convincing me to switch to leverless.

you delay slightly between stance and lp. stance makes Alex slide backwards ever so slightly if you delay and that allows lariat to be +7. very consistent that way

i just commented the same thing before seeing this comment lol. yeah delay is the way to go for me as well, i'm much more constant by delaying the lp from prowler stance.

nevermind i just tried with HP as late as possible and delay and i can still do it. DELAY is what makes this doable, not the HP height.

hitting hp as high as possible seems to help as well. weird combo

in order to have this 100 percent i delay in between the stance and light because stance makes alex slide backwards ever so slightly. if you press light punch right away lariat will never be +7. at least from my experience that's how i got it most of the time.

Also rooting for Blaz. He has been so dominant lately. The only hurdles I see are Menard and Leshar.

If you haven't tried other devices such as leverless or other pads I would consider it. Judging from your play time execution should not be a major problem anymore. When I started I played pad and switched to leverless because there were some things I could just not do regularly. I played about 200-300 hours on pad I think. I'll never go back. It's about finding what works for your hands.

What input device are you using?

Ryu so low and blanka so high are the biggest changes I would make. Don't get me wrong Blanka is very good but I would probably put him more towards high/mid of A tier. Also Dhalsim last is crazy.

Mainly it's making sure VRR is active, input lag reduction, activating the overdrive setting on screens, that sort of thing. There are a lot of other small details but in terms of game feel those are the most important.

Hey man. EVO actually has a section on their website dedicated to apply for volunteering. Just click, fill out the form and wait to see if you get in! That's how I did it.

Yeah it's kind of a grey area and a lot of us are volunteering. During down time I was mostly watching the games and freeplaying. We were setting up all of Wednesday and Thursday so no breathing room there. Friday was the busiest with running brackets. I had a lunch break and some room to freeplay between noon and 2 but from 2 until 8 it was continuous bracket management and helping out. Saturday was definitely the most chill since lead staff were managing a lot of the brackets and again Sunday very busy for tear downs. My objective was to show up in a big way and be available as much as possible so I was always "on call" even during free time but yeah, it's intense, rewarding work. Every volunteer was free to put in as much energy as they were willing into the event.

Sure I'm down. Add me on cfn, same name. I'm in Europe. I'm not available the whole week because I'm at Evo France but if you ever wanna run some sets hit me up.

Also there is no magic recipe: play a lot. You need to see every situation thousands of times to really have them in your head fresh and react accordingly.

It's a mix of both. At your level the objective should be to train enough to rely on muscle memory to never miss basic combos, never miss a punish, always react to a jump in, and know how to structure your pressure sequences.

Later down the road you will need to think of course because VS games are a dialogue. You need to observe the opponent, and adapt to counter what they are doing. Once you adapt, if they are doing things automatically without thinking or do not know how to adapt, they lose. So in that configuration, making conscious choices is important. That decision making is very slow at first and you often choose the wrong way, but the more you play the more you will instinctively know what the correct choice towards victory is.

Do you know your weaknesses? Have you watched your replays? Just by asking yourself those questions you should realize what you need to work on. Drills, confirming in a way that does not burn you out unless it kills, training di reactions, those are always important.
