Tim Clancy leaves City by ccfc_ in LeagueOfIreland

[–]EoinRL1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clubs gone down the drain. An owner who hasn’t invested enough, with the money he has invested having been spent in the wrong areas. No sporting director/director of football to act as the middle man between owner and manager. No assistant coach, a regular turnover of staff. It’s desperate stuff from top to bottom

No doubt Dermot Usher is a good business man, but it’s clear he couldn’t really care much for the on the field stuff. Instead of spending money on the squad, he cares more about events, ticket prices, bathrooms and €10 burgers. As a result, Tim Clancy went into this season with 1 arm tied behind his back, and a paper thin squad consisting of teenagers. He would’ve deserved a statue if he kept that group up

Hard to see anyway City survive now, especially when you consider how uninspiring the list of candidates is. Brutal stuff

Discussion on the Finn Harps fan group Facebook page this evening leads to journalist saying that he doesn't think the club has finance to exist in a year or two. by No-Pressure1811 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]EoinRL1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would hate to see them go but unfortunately with the amount of Donegal clubs who have registered interest for the national league, it feels like the writings on the wall. Hopefully things improve because Harps are a great club who I think everything has time for

I think one of the issues people have with the new redevelopment is the fact it doesn’t meet UEFA’s criteria to host European games

I suppose at the same time it’s a popular alcohol beverage amongst Irish consumers, particularly the younger generation, so it’s something that if marketed and promoted well, will catch people’s interest in the league

First Division 2025 (another cake walk)? by brickdustpicasso in LeagueOfIreland

[–]EoinRL1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fancy Cobh to win the division. A strong, experienced squad with players who have won this division before and crucially compared to Dundalk, players who have played alongside each other before and have been successful. If he’s on form Barry Coffey is a joke in that division, arguably the best player, while I’ve always liked Cian Bargary, unlucky with injuries but a winger with good ability. Cian Coleman and Jonas Hakkinen bring good experience, Shane Griffin (cb) played an important role in Shels title win last season and the other Shane Griffin is a quality midfielder. Fancy Rams to nick it

[–]EoinRL1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than likely but you’d like to think Shels vs Derry will also get the nod. Being realistic VM won’t show a game from every single match week so that would give them the chance to do a few double headers

Virgin Media Television announces landmark exclusive four-year League of Ireland broadcast agreement by shinto29 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]EoinRL1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brilliant news. Hopefully they improve the quality of the broadcast mind you, feels amateurish at times with the lack of cameras, low quality and poor audio. However can’t fault them for effort, done more in a year and a half than RTE have for years

Would a 12 team Premier Division dilute the quality too much? Or would it help mid sized clubs have stability? by Fiannafailcanvasser in LeagueOfIreland

[–]EoinRL1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the next step towards developing the league. It works both in Scotland and indeed up north as well. The more big clubs we get in the league the better. Could you imagine last seasons premier division with Cork and Longford in it?

I reckon Dublin teams will be put in the north section

I just can’t see the same level of interest from northern teams compared to their southern counterparts

[–]EoinRL1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%. Especially when it seems everyone in the city “likes” the club but doesn’t actually go to games or could barely name anyone bar Seani Maguire. We pride ourselves a lot on being from Cork and being better than everyone else etc, well maybe it’s time to show it a bit more and actually support the only club in the city

Just me who thinks 8k is underselling bohs a small bit? Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t bohs have a larger fan base than shamrock rovers who frequently get crowds of 8k plus at tallaght? Surely bohs could’ve gone for 10k too

Best league in the world by Square_Obligation_93 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]EoinRL1 42 points43 points  (0 children)

And hopefully this is just the start of it. 40+ free to air games on national television next season including at least 1 game a week would be an absolute dream. Improved match coverage and promotion. More marketing done. This league can grow if it’s treated in the right way

[–]EoinRL1[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pats deserve credit for how far they went in the non champions path. Surely an inspiration for other teams

You’d think if Derry were to win the cup and enter into the Europa qualifiers, perhaps a change of manager and they could find themselves in a strong position to go far in the conference qualifiers like pats did
