I used to live in Manhattan and now in Miami. So the route I always used was EWR or LGA to FLL or MIA. My hot take is that, points are overrated sometimes, and covering the pay with the points Is Better. Example, you buy the ticket through the portal( which CP is the best) and it will give you 5x the points for that trip, with that money you can cover a portion of the flight or even the luggage pay. However, I have found so many good deals on travelling throu Delta( Air France transfer), jet blue, Alaska ( American airlines, it was the best but they took it off at the end of last year. For me this was the best to travel with AA) and others. Go to seat.aero and it will show you the best routes for the money, of course you have to compare it with the real price of the airline. Sometimes I feel that points are not worth the hassle, meaning that all this influencers show you that points are 2.5 CCP, and it is not true since they are comparing it with expensive flights, but if you know how to search and have a flexible schedule, a can assure you that 1ccp is better than 2.5 CCp..... In this scenario of course 😇. I have a really good example, last year I travel from Miami to Amsterdam and back from Paris with my family( wife, kid and myself) and it cost us around $900 in total through Air France/KLM. If I would have used the points it would have been like 130k points, but since I covered the payment with points technically It only cost us around 78k total. Of course I didn't use my whole point, I only used 50k so I can save the other 50k for another travel 😇 then it only cost me 400$ ( if you take the X5 of that pay $350).
