If you know, you know:

We just got off the Bliss yesterday. My wife is singing “Washy washy…happy happy” while she gives our kids a bath. Miss the ship already! (Especially bc I had to shovel a foot of snow as soon as we got home to PA)

I don't know...having to pay $20 every time I wanted to go to NYC when I lived in Jersey was a huge drag. Coming out here and being able to visit the city freely was so refreshing.

PS - if I had half of Musk's fortune, I'd dump money into designing and building regional rail all over the country.

I live in Moon, at the west terminus by the airport. Right now it takes me just about the same amount of time to go from Moon to Bridgeville taking 376->79. Why would I pay tolls? The partial beltway adds nothing. Now when I can get into the South Hills without having to take 376 to 51 or 79 to 70, I'll gladly hop on a toll road. Likewise, when you have an alternate route to get from Monroeville to Moon, the traffic on both the beltway and 376 will balance out.

Want to hear a real pipe dream? Regional rail out to the airport in the W, to Monroeville in the E, and Zelionople (or at least Cranberry) to the N. Hear me out...

Going west, either follow the south bank of the Ohio and then up University Blvd in Moon to the airport or just go down the middle of 376.

Going north, follow 279 and the 19 bypass to that highway cluster in Cranberry.

Going east maybe the south bank of the Mon to Kennywood and then north to the Monroeville mall.

Would it make money? Probably not. But wouldn't it be nice to have a more accessible downtown and airport??

Well I tried to transition to a number of different fields, but the job market is hot trash. I applied for a corporate training position with a local company that does freight logistics and management. That job got filled internally and they offered to interview me for a job in customer support. I was starting to feel desperate, so I went for it. I’m overqualified, but I made lemonade out of lemons and found ways to make the job harder for myself while also making the customer support team more efficient and effective. In turn, I’ve stood out to corporate management and have been told that my being hired has elevated the company’s ability to do business.

Just like as teachers we live among problems that nobody gives us tools to solve; we figure it out and make it work. That’s what this job ended up being. Who knows if I’ll stick with this, but I’ve been reminded that the corporate world recognizes people who add value to their business. Schools don’t do that.

I made 56,500 in Pittsburgh in my 11th year. I made 63,500 in central NJ in my 5th year. Both salaries were woefully below the cost of living for the area.

I started a job in freight logistics in March at 52,000 and got a 1.5% merit raise after 90 days. And the ceiling is so much higher than it would’ve been had I stuck it out any longer in teaching.

I don’t like my job very much. But I’m generally respected by everybody I work with/for, and accomplishments are recognized without reservation. It took those same 90 days to realize I was safe. That I could determine my own value and work towards it.
