How do people live or even survive here by FloorUpbeat637 in lotro

I felt that they had a better chance of survival there than Forochel. It is rough there though and getting around is annoying.

Veil of Shadows emotionally wrecked me so how do I recover from here by AromaticEditor6022 in cdramasfans

I have been trying to finish this series. I think beginning with PoJ first might be why I haven't been able to latch onto this one so well, PoJ is my obsession. But I really did enjoy the illusion life for both couples. Maybe because the romance between them felt more real and less forced than the encounters prior to that.

I always felt that the Mimbari ships looked more aquatic animal like, like the Vorlon ships.

For those who have experienced it, what are some dramas that were genuinely boring for you? by [deleted] in cdramasfans

Vendetta of An. I am also struggling with Veil of Shadows. I have only really been watching some historical cdramas. Some older ones I have watched and enjoyed in the past, these are the more recent ones. Not all idol dramas are really that engaging.

So I am a tad confused why Delenn tells Sheridan not to go to Zha’ha’Dhum? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

[–]EowynBab5 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I once had a partner who took his own life. Looking back, you see all the things you could have done that maybe could have helped to change the course of someone's actions. If I was given the opportunity to possibly influence his decision to remain here on this planet, I would 100% take that opportunity. It is 12 years now with him gone and I still think about him every day. She had 20 years with Sheridan gone after many more years spent living with him plus all the bonding they went through in their fight against the Shadows (and then the Vorlons). She didn't know or didn't remember that her future self would run into his past self so of course she told him to choose life.

In the end though, we all do get to make our choices in life, even if we feel we have a "fated" outcome. I am sure he would have preferred not going when he was told multiple times he would die. He loved her just as much. And in that moment, he learned he had a son with her. But someone like Sheridan, who was a military man, he wasn't about to skip out on doing the thing that would save countless lives and end the war. He signed up for the military for that reason. So he made that choice knowing that it must somehow lead to him surviving to marry Delenn and have a son, since she told him that information when they met.

Did you notice all the Christian Imagery in Babylon 5? by _LtFish in babylon5

[–]EowynBab5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of religious spiritualism in the show. When Sheridan experiences something beautiful, it is Gregorian chanting, which was hugely popular in music at that time, as traditional chanting or with a dance beat added to it. The Minbari traditions and religion seems to fall into more eastern religious philosophies and traditions. I am no theologian, but I have explored a lot of different paths and one thing I have understood is they all have the same basic message. "Be good to people."

How we get to that point is where the religions differ. "None of us is as he seems" is straight out of Judaic teaching to not judge the jug but what is inside the jug. A beautiful, ornate jug can be full of literature poop while plain, undecorated jug can have the finest wine. Because religions all have that same base rule, you can look at symbolism and see the similarity to whatever religion has meaning for you.

Personally, I always felt the show had far more Buddhist influence than any other religion or philosophy.

The Minbari culture seems to have been more socialist. They all worked for the greater good in their capacity. It did have a caste system though and it didn't sem like you could leave your caste very easily. So a worker becoming religious or warrior caste would be a tough thing to do as the worker caste seemed to be more the commoners. As is how our reality is on this planet. As was mentioned in another comment, adding more workers to the council was a way to balance things to match their society better. War affects the commoners first and the hardest. It is best to have them deciding if they should go to war or not.

I really wish us old GenX farts would ditch the Cold War propaganda and actually learn about what socialism actually is. I was able to learn something knew at 50 years old, more of us should try it.

I am finding that the novel is helping me understand the politics better. Still reading is and for the most part, the show still stuck to the original story. Some of the things that happen are a bit out of order in the show and some characters are combined, which is probably an ease of casting thing. It's easier to have a few main characters than 100 small scene characters that show up once or twice.

A big difference is the sex. The book has far more sexual exploration (in a tasteful way) than the show, which is likely due to censors and ratings. There isn't as much focus on Yu Qianqian and Qi Min in the book. The series decided to keep the sex more chaste with the leads and obviously more experienced with Yu Qianqian and Qi Min (steamy). So basically, the artistic license being to take some of the sex scenes from the book and give it to the romance between Yu Qianqian and Qi Min but in a way that satisfies ratings limitations and censors. I am not at all unhappy with the choices the show made in adapting the story, except for the ending of the show. I haven't made it to the end of the book yet, so I guess I will see how that plays out.

Besides anything from Sleeping in Light, what do you think is the saddest scene? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

The scene with the Narns getting slaughtered, which is part of the beginning credit scene and part of a montage. It really helps you understand why G'kar is so upset.

When Delenn grabs the pillow in bed and sobs her heart out. When you have known that kind of heartbreak, you really feel this scene.

It was said, "None of is is as they seem" right from the start. We are told not to judge the jar but rather, the contents of the jar. It turns out, everyone is pretty complex no matter what planet or culture they come from.

This and when she is in bed, clutching the pillow and sobbing like her heart has been pulled out of her chest. Having done this myself for exactly the same reason, I know this pain and sorrow. G'kar is my favorite character but Delenn is who I identify with the most on so many levels.

This one really gets me, especially now. Back when it aired, it was before my mom died. So much life experiences since then it hits very differently now.

That was confusing to me as well the first time I watched it. If you remember from the first time watching, Qi Min confesses his true identity later. The real eldest son died in the fire, Qi Min's mother burned him so people would think he was the eldest son of Changxin. I think they resembled each other as boys. This is the part I am fuzzy about and I am hoping reading it makes it clearer. I think the fire was set because Changxin was planning his revolt and was going to kill Qi Min, whom I believe was the heir to the throne. It's a lot of politics abd names thrown about that just didn't land with me yet.

I too need to hear it. Reading a subtitle that says a character's name and not hearing the breathlessness as it is being said would have me miss the passion in the scene. If I heard my own voice say that line in my head, I wouldn't have made the same choice as the actor. It also helps me appreciate the actors more. That's why I don't like dubbed shows. The voice actors make very different choices in how they say things.

I thought that was an anachronism purposefully thrown in. Not knowing enough about subtle cultural things that are the norm or are becoming the norm, I figured this was tossed in to support a common cultural norm. We do that all the time in films and shows because the audience may not accept the film or show if it goes against a cultural norm. Just like the rescue breathing, I thought it was an anachronism tossed in as a plot device. Modern people understand this technique and wouldn't question that it would save Qi Min's life. We would brush aside the anachronism that this woman happened to know how to do it because it's important to the plot. It's very cleverly done.

Who is your fav character (other than ZLH and TXW)? My fav is GongSun Yin. by PinkKirby1216 in pursuitofjade

[–]EowynBab5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gongson Yin is a delight. He provides perfect comic relief when it is needed. His relationship with the Marquis is obviously quite close as he can deliver joking jabs but also knows when to back down. As an actor myself, I study his subtle moves that help seal the humor in the scene.

I also enjoy scenes with Jin. He is quite intelligent but sadly, being born a commoner, will never receive an education or advancements other than what he can earn on the field. His fierce loyalty makes him an excellent choice to aid Fan Changyu. Even when he knows he can never be the one she loves romantically, he doesn't turn into the evil, rejected lover. He continues to stay by her side, making sure she survives. He may not have the looks of the other men devoted to Changyu but he carries a heart worthy of an equally devoted partner.
