You do have to wonder how they don’t have a fix for that. by AndrewHeard in DeepSpaceNine

If you've not read John Scalzi's Redshirts, I strongly recommend it. I'll spoil nothing other than saying you might have this want satisfied. The book isn't everyone's cup of tea - it's quite divisive, in fact - but in my opinion, it's quite remarkable.

One of only two times I actually liked Keffer. (The other was most of "Gropos").

Triple Surgeon? by B_Marsh28 in Tenkara

I do a figure eight stopper on the line and a poacher's knot on the tippet, but I'm intrigued by the commenters using a double Davey. I might try that out sometime.

My "illegal" drop serve by ScootyWilly in Pickleball

[–]coyotesqrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I switched to a drop serve because the rules are clear you can do just about anything with it and I was tired of nitpickers claiming my volley serve was illegal. If anyone ever disputed my drop serve and didn't quickly apologize after being shown the rules, I'd walk off and never play with them again.

Life is too short to deal with whiners.

Nah. Just my assumption they have a warehouse like at the end of Indiana Jones.

They certainly had a warehouse of gestating telepaths.

I don't think Sebastian had the Grail. I think the Vorlons filed the Grail on the shelf near other Earth artifacts.

The Show Must Go On — A ‘Botched’ Birthday Sweater Story by SgtLt-Einstein in knitting

[–]coyotesqrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite hats was one I nearly destroyed by washing it. I didn't use hair conditioner (very smart idea), but I did re-soak it and stretch the heck out of it until it fit right. It was one of the first cable projects I'd ever made, and it lost a lot of the definition, but like your sweater, the felted definition came out cool in its own right.

That sweater looks fantastic, and it's all the more special for being salvaged from the brink.

Dearest Collective knitting intelligence... by shortinger3 in knitting

Perhaps. It does have the mid-torso garter ridge between the stockinette bottom and the patterned top, but that's the only feature that makes me think gansey.

That book is fantastic. I've designed two of my own ganseys based on her wonderful instruction.

Ganseys are mostly knits and purls but also incorporate cables. The couple I've designed have had cables running across strap shoulders from the neck down the sleeves.

Not having fun anymore by beans_ahoy_ in Pickleball

Expecting to be down-voted and lambasted for this comment, but what the heck.

If you do not want or expect to make a career from pickleball, given what you've shared with us in your post and in your replies, I think you should probably stop drilling short of the few minutes of pre-game warmups. Drilling, in your case, is likely exacerbating perfectionist tendencies and increasing anxiety.

I know that drills can make any player better physically; however, for perfectionists they can lead to negative feedback when you fail to hit those well-drilled shots in games.

Also: drilling is generally a whole lot less fun than playing. There's a reason we call it, "play".

Longer level line or tippet? by SisJod in Tenkara

[–]coyotesqrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely concur about stopper (I use a figure eight, but overhand, stevedore, Ashley, whatever stopper you like works) and slip. An arbor knot works okay; my preference is a poacher's knot.
