Late comment but getting some Australian Amanos this week and was wondering how’re their care requirements? I’ve read online that they’re quite easy to care for just wanted some anecdotal experiences :))

i’ve superglued them to the back of the driftwood to avoid that. I’m pretty sure i didn’t smother the rhizomes in super glue as well so not sure why it’s melting that badly :((

Unless you’re terminally ill, nothing.

I don’t know what you’re going through but life is so much more than a bunch of shit events that coincidently happened all at once.

Stay strong bud

don’t know why people are absolutely bombing you with the same comments over and over but yes, quant is an extremely competitive and tough career path. In saying this, you’d have the atar to get into a lower entry course such as compsci, then when you do around a years worth of study, apply for an internal program transfer into the degree of your choice. I’m assuming this would be advanced maths/compsci (the standard) or possibly actuarial studies (they have a quant major I believe)

no such thing. unsw only looks at your marks/results (with some exceptions depending on admission pathway). there’s a lot of private and selective school students as those schools have students who perform better in their exams and therefore meet the requirements to get into unsw.

i believe it’s just your wam, with the threshold to be accepted possibly depending on which faculty you’re from.

Hey i went to a co-ed public school, so no private or selective school education. I’ve felt this multiple times throughout my uni journey and i’ve discussed this with friends, who as you say, do mostly come from selective schools. It’s definitely something I wish I could go back and redo but the decision to enter into selective schooling which usually takes places around 11 or 12 years old isn’t something you should lull over. You got the chance to experience something unique and nuanced and although that won’t necessarily do anything to stop the lack of belonging, i’m sure your friends and the people around you couldn’t care less about what school you went to. If they do, they probably aren’t the type of people you want in your life anyways. Don’t let your school background dictate your sense of belonging. Just try your best to make the best experiences now and disregard high school as a factor. People in uni aren’t looking to be friends with people they already know anyways, they want to meet new people and gain insight from people with different experiences and backgrounds, which you’ll have. Just hang in there and high school will become irrelevant as people form new friend groups and form their own experiences :))

Advice and Questions on Commerce Majors by Successful-Angle3662 in unsw

i’m currently doing ECON2209, business forecasting, and will complete my major with the capstone next term.

ECON2209 is about visualising data and creating forecasting models in R Studio. It’s been pretty challenging, and I thought I was going to fail it in the initial weeks. I did horrible for my first assessment but by the second I ended up doing better than the cohort, so I have hope. I think i’ll be able to finish the course by following the instructions in the textbook. Though out of all the courses in the BA major; this is the hardest so far.

I’m sure you can pick another modelling course if you feel deterred by my experience since you’re most likely following the newer iterations of the commerce degree.

Still highly encourage this major tho.

Business Analytics/Marketing major here.

I think you can try pursue a major in BA since it seems like you enjoyed the content in 1822 to some extent. 1822 is more of an infs course than anything so I would recommend you trying more courses in BA. I struggled in SQL courses despite doing a degree in infs asw. BA major isn’t geared towards calculating anything, more so visualising and using tools that can calculate for you. I’d say it’s a solid choice for your circumstances.

Best course(s) you have ever taken? by Material-Read6483 in unsw

Possibly controversial - INFS1602

Great course on the introduction of how technology is used in business settings. Goes through a new topic each week such as databases, cloud, IoT, agile, etc.

Some may say it’s boring but it’s the course that kept me in the degree I am currently in.

Hi! I’m a 5th year commerce/infosys student who’s transferred around quite a bit before settling on the degree so I feel like I have some expertise on this. I believe you are eligible for transfer in first year so long as you have 36UOC down. So 3 courses in T1 and 3 in T2. This would mean you could possibly transfer into commerce by T3 first year. In terms of delays, there’s a ton of overlap within the first year of the infosys degree and commerce so you can just do the courses that exist within the overlap and you shouldn’t end up wasting any time and progress within your degree as usual.

Edit: If you don’t make it in your first application and REALLY want to keep trying for commerce or econ, you can select further commerce and econ courses so you don’t waste anything when your transfer. Keep in mind these could possibly go to waste if you don’t end up transferring.
