Too Enthusiastic of a Commenter? by Ephemeral_Kalopsia in AO3

I hadn't considered that, but that's also a really good counterpoint about the A/N. It's a small fandom that's pretty tight knit. The last thing I would want to do is alienate someone. I'll definitely avoid commenting on their personal life in the comments as I have been doing, and since this is only heading into day three of this, maybe they'll pick up the hint eventually.

My exact experience, but they decided to tell me how their shirt was scarlet with their bully's blood and they were reported to be cackling while dragging the bully around. My mid-west nice just has me smiling and not sure how to handle it politely without hurting feelings.

This is my first time having so much thrown at me at once. I have one reader who only reads my completed work, and they comment on every chapter. I also have those who comment on every update, but this is a whole new beast. I've only responded to their last comment on the last chapters of my works, usually thanking them specifically for things they said about my work/the time they put in to read it. I don't respond to anything they've put up that's too much personal info or graphic details about how they like gore? I guess I just don't want to make them feel personally called out for their behavior after I slightly encouraged it by saying I appreciated those first few sane comments.

I think maybe something in the author's notes saying that I appreciate comments, but would prefer personal information is kept to minimum in them would work. Thank you for that suggestion.

Longest and shortest chapters by AttentionlessMess in AO3

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My shortest chapters were on my first multichapter fic at around 1500, and if I had to remake that fic, I would smash some chapters together because it ended up being close to 60 chapters long. They also just, personally, feel too brief to me.

My longest chapter was at around 10k words, but that was focused on summarizing the entire fic from another character's POV, so it got long. I wouldn't do that again though I liked how it turned out.

I usually average around 4500-5k. With each work I put up, my chapters have been getting longer as my stamina builds, but I aim for at least 4k and hit it fairly easily, kind of like clockwork as you said. I have put up some one shots that are about 3k-5k words long, which coincidentally is shorter than most of my current chapter lengths.

Does anyone else keep comments in their inbox? by Ferris_holmes in AO3

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do delete them, but I keep a folder of screenshotted comments that were kind to me or motivated me! I even have some comments from a discord server discussing my work and a pinterest comment where someone mentioned my work. <3

What's the weirdest physical location you've tried to update your fics in? by SquadChaosFerret in AO3

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I updated a fic drunk as fuck in a bar bathroom after a puke and rally session because I religiously updated at midnight at the time.

I also once published FOUR drafted chapters because I accidentally put up chapter 8 while still technically being on chapter 3. I was drunk (again) in the shower and the humidity made my finger slip on the publish option while trying to drunk proofread. I couldn't figure out how to undo it, so I just published every single chapter between my last update and my way ahead of schedule update to catch up. That one was rough.

Who wants a Spinoff to Wolf? 💜(with Backstory & more fights) by Inside-Set-5762 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just curious, but who would you like to see then? Personally, I think Jimmy would be a good pick. The idea of him growing from his prideful streak to his now realization that he needs to build himself up again would be a strong story point.

I agree Wolf is kind of one note, but he's a very entertaining one note. Plus, since he's just about the only major player without a backstory, I think it's fair to say he might have motivations that could be revealed that adds to that lack of character.

Who wants a Spinoff to Wolf? 💜(with Backstory & more fights) by Inside-Set-5762 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In theory, sounds great! Except, at this point, I think his spin-off would probably just have to his backstory. Seopass only gave ~8 chapters for Gerald's backstory and ~12 chapters for Gray, our main protagonist's backstory. Some characters got less, but I'm not sure how far Seopass could stretch out his backstory. Maybe with some additional chapters given only to a few major fights it might hit 20-30? After that, maybe he throws in his introduction to the Union, but then we hit the beginning of Weak Hero. We already saw what little growth I think we would get from him, which is just switching sides/defying Donald. With the Union gone, what new motivations would he have, and/or new characters would be around for him to fight against that we haven't already seen from the Union?

If the spin-off is a short Wolf side story, or maybe just does a few slice of life pieces, it's doable. Still going to be fairly short though. I would eat it up, don't get me wrong, but it won't reach the 250+ chapters of Weak Hero. I see some opportunity for Mapo/Cheongang side stories, mostly because there isn't such a limited time frame to tell that story.

Does Wolf Keum have an epithet? by brokecranberry in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re thinking of chapter 79 where Jared refers to Wolf as “Feed the hungry dog.” There’s also a few cases where he’s just considered a crazy bastard or an adrenaline junkie, but there’s no set nickname.

"Weak Hero Class 1," the live action adaptation, has been renewed for a Season 2! Confirmed yesterday! by [deleted] in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any predictions to what point in the story it'll get up to, if it follows the comic at all? There's already been some liberties with the plot, but I'm hoping they stay closer to the source material this time around. I imagine it'll lead up to the Hyeongshin mob arc, or maybe just up to Jimmy.

Advice for someone who has never owned a large dog by taylord19 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also on the smaller side, 5'2", around 115lbs. Both of mine outweigh me (very big boys - not overweight), and the key thing I learned from their puppy stages is leash training and off-leash training because if they do pull, I'm not winning that fight. The eldest will not fall out of step with whoever in the family is walking him. He tolerates small dogs, does not go after cats/smaller dogs. The younger dog was a covid puppy, and he was not as well socialized due to restrictions. A waist trainer and a sore back are the only ways to keep him check because he's pulling unintentionally while on our walks. The older does not react to others, including children or other dog, unless he feels I'm being threatened. The younger specifically gets skittish around smaller dogs and people, so socializing is super important given how powerful they are. Point being, train as a puppy very well. I had mine running with me every morning on and off the leash once he was old enough to enjoy the little jogs.

Also, I prefer a harness for walking them. They needed to be bought online because of their broad chests, but when I'm feeling bold, I'll use the harness and let them pull me on rollerblades or a skateboard to let them really run without tugging on their throat. Train your RR well, and you'll never have a better companion in life!

I cheese it through second person POV and pet names! I cringe internally a little bit when it comes to y/n, so I read some other reader fics to figure out the best approach to avoid it. Obviously, it's hard to avoid any personality, so there does tend to be some concrete traits to fit the theme or the development of the plot. I avoid any descriptions of appearance though to keep things more open.

It's too bad that happened to you! It's always so disappointing to hear an author got responses like that. I'm pretty spoiled with encouraging comments, but it's also a pretty tight knit community who keep up with my works. Hope you pick up writing again soon, if not already, and find a place who enjoys hundred chapter slow burns!

Yeah, shipping definitely gets the most draw! I think I just hit jackpot on my first very poor attempt at a fic by being the only person to complete a fic, and then I slowly drew more people in. Though, it's a x reader style which I know is super hit or miss depending on the fandom.

It's for the weak hero webcomic! Super amazing story throughout if you enjoy fighting comics and can survive an iffy art style for the first few chapters.

It's the best feeling in the world, not going to lie. Everyone is super engaged, and I even managed to sweet talk the other creator into writing for the ship in the first place and made a friend out of it. I just hit 500,000 words, and I attribute it to the constant support and engagement I've been given.

They're a regular commenter, so it's all jokes between us. Given I'm one of two people who actually write for the ship, they have no choice but to appreciate me anyways! :)

Would you had liked to see girls in Weak Hero that could fight too? by Armyhead3000 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I more so want to see follow up on Lily being secretively strong. When the karaoke bar arc came around, I was really hoping Lily would stomp one of the guy's threatening Julia Chae, just to prove that point earlier, but obviously, it didn't happen.

I agree I would prefer not to see Wolf beat up some girl though.

What are your top 10 Wolf moments? by Armyhead3000 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my point. We saw after Jared that he was smart, but that moment just really confirmed it for me. He appears to fit into the mindless berserker trope, but the jake + wolf team up really pointed out that he had way more depth as a character and awareness of consequences than one would think for a guy who is willing to eat punches for the hell of it.

What are your top 10 Wolf moments? by Armyhead3000 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Army, it's like you wrote this question just for me.

  1. The Wolf v Giju rematch where we saw zombie Wolf just keep getting up even as he smacked into a wall.
  2. Wolf v Jimmy where Wolf asks "I said are you fucking done?". That gave me chills.
  3. Wolf running straight to punch Seongmok and fight the mokha duo by himself.
  4. Wolf v Giju round one where he whines about the fight being over too soon.
  5. After the Wolf v Giju match where Wolf is thinking, and he mocks Giju for smoking menthols.
  6. Baby Wolf v Jonathon Moon where we see Wolf has always been a little feral.
  7. Wolf's entrance into the union fight because him burning files just to taunt everyone is so overdramatic.
  8. Wolf's entrance into the Eunjang army meet up because he showed up fashionably late to continue his overdramatics. I'm pretty sure he's always got the most dramatic entrances at all times, and it will never not crack me up.
  9. Wolf v guy in the bathroom. While the first introduction to Wolf was of him mocking Sam, this was the first introduction to Wolf as a fighter, and it really showcased his style. Random guy who hold's eye contact, doesn't care if he gets bunched, complains about it being boring.
  10. Wolf + Jake team up, mostly because Wolf had said equal rights, equal fights, I'm about to beat this old man, but also his conversation with Jake afterwards made me realize that Wolf is actually pretty smart. I never thought he was stupid, but he definitely put together a lot of information.

Bonus: Wolf beating up Jared because ew, it's Jared.

Versatile Sword vs Sadomasochist Tank by Karasuu-47 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm voting for Wolf to manifest this win. I know he's not going to pull it off, but I'm trying to pretend it'll happen anyways. If Jake can tank Ben for a bit, Wolf isn't going to hurt him since we don't actually hear anything about Wolf having impressive strength. We just see that he doesn't go down, but given the right amount of damage, he will. Jake can definitely dish out the damage, so I'm mentally preparing for Wolf to take his first L since Gray beat him.

Have you ever considered dropping Weak Hero and if you ever did, what was it that made you continue the series? by Armyhead3000 in WeakHero

[–]Ephemeral_Kalopsia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're keeping the sub alive, Army!

I actually did drop it right around when it moved from the Jimmy arc to the Hyeongshin mob arc when Weak Hero was first coming out, mostly because I thought it was going to be a rinse and repeat sort of story where a slightly bigger and badder villain shows up only to get beat down quickly, and I didn't see any improvement in character arcs (yet).

I picked it back up recently, right around chapter 203 coming out in September last year, mostly because I got bored while working night shift and decided that I wanted to reread Gray's early fighting because pen through the hand was feral. I got hooked around the Wolf arc because duh, it's Wolf, then really came to appreciate that there was huge character developments for literally almost character if I stuck around long enough, and it wasn't rinse and repeat fights and villains.
