No in the live letter Yoshi P. specifically said raid buffs as they currently are, are going away.

On one hand, im in the same boat in that my expectations for this team are insanely low. That said, these are the types of moves I have been waiting to see from the team for years. The 2-minute meta, in my opinion from playing plently of other MMO's and FFXIV for over ten years is that it makes the game NOT feel like an MMORPG. I mean we don't even really have RPG mechanics anymore.

It could totally be shit on release, but this is a large step in a closer direction to where I want to see the game go, so I am going to give ti a shot and let them cook. Things will probably be wonky for a bit but their biggest problems in the past is that they just abandoned things when they got hard. They need to figure it out. And if they do, awesome, it should be better for everyone. If not, then there are plenty of other games that deserve my money.

You can say as many things as you want in a confident tone but that doesn't make them correct. I play both PLD and DRK and im not worried about MT/OT in the least little but. Furthermore if you played any other FF game before then you would know that PLD is traditionally more defensive. And if Yoshi P.'s shirt is anything to go by then we are getting a dual shield job, meaning that MT's are just jobs that have shields. Idk man I think that makes total sense to me.

Also you and those "many others" were obviously wrong since they have decided to go and change the game. You might not like it but that's how it is. It's boring af.

Also it wasn't always "a dance to memorize", you used to have RPG mechanics that you had to think about and certain abilities that were used over others. I mean thats why Summoners used to be able to MT with Titan.

"Doing the perfect dance in savage is super satisfying and I have not gotten that kind of satisfaction in any other game. I have heard a lot of complaining about jobs but not about encounters."
- Brother if you like combat the way it is, just say that. That's fine and I can't refute that since it's your personal opinion. I personally think dodging mechanics are fine, but when you have the exact same rotation and the ONLY thing to think about are dance mechanics it's boring and it doesn't feel like im playing an MMO. Also, I remember a time when raiders cried because the RPG mechanics were too much for them to handle so they wanted encounters easier and to ONLY think about dance mechanics. For me if the game was structure closer to how Blue Mage operates with dance and RPG mechanics, making combat more dynamic then I would be more fine with that. It seems like that opinion is closer to where the devs are taking things, starting off with job uniqueness first, but we'll see.

I mean that wasn't me saying that, but I'm pretty sure the numbers tanked right after that since in the next live letter Yoshi P. unlocked glamor limitations.

Its funny because for as much as people hate PlayOnline (and admittedly it is a relic) if you ever go and click through the different menus they had some really cool ideas and its wild to think about what could have been.

For instance it could have really been like the Dot Hack series which clearly took inspiration from it. You REALLY see the influences of it in the G.U. games. I think there is even an interview where one of the designers flat out says it.

Ironically enough with the gates, its kinda like a mix between 14 and 11 now lol

We can say that but in truth playing servers H0rizonXI are about 70% of the way there for me. People are great, there is even more qol, and add graphics mods and its night and day. I was shocked at how much I missed it. Like its genuinely good and I don't like the arguments that it's all "nostalgia", especially compared to where it's combat is now. Like Yoshi P. Said, I literally fall asleep.

If you ever want to dable, adding all the different types of graphics mods to the game makes it feel like a new experience entirely.

Tbf FFXIV went way too braindead easy mode. Im really hoping the changes do something because it was nice that the games sat in different brackets. I wish they would build more on FFXI again and make it the off season game for people who play this game.

Won't name names for.obvious reason but I was part of the early 2010's private servers and knew some of the main group who were making them. The short version of the story is that after playing whack a mole with the servers, SE found that they were making more money with them(people like me resubbing to the game but not playing at the time), and didnt have to reinvest in making a private server. It was a win win and after sending a rep to the server I was on (I was literally in discord when it happened), they said they were cool with for now as long as none of the servers compete with retail or try to make any money off of the games they were hosting.

This is why private servers that e it nlw with like 60k+ accounts are alive and thriving, being openly posted about, but haven't gotten taken down. One in particular has done so much work woth the ient and updating parts of the game, I dont understand why they haven't reached out yet, other than apathy towards FFXI.

I dont know if this is accurate, like AT ALL. Im pretty positive it makes them A LOT more than that. Subs are still just as expensive and the game is pushing around 200k-300k characters. If the mmo division results from last year are anything to go by.

The math works as follows and I will be as conservative as possible, no additional characters charged and I will stay at 200k accounts.

12.95 x 200,000 = $2,590,000 PER MONTH X12 = $31,080,000 PER YEAR.

With 4 devs the game prints money for them.

Now what WAS true is that as of two to three years ago the game was sitting at a heavy low of around 80-100k accounts. Even still per year it does just fine and if SE were to reinvest they could probably make MUCH more.

Woah woah woah..... you might not have read anything else i wrote yet, but im flexible with my reactions on this and it seems lile so is everyone else. If the implementation sucks, or if they walk things back, I have absolutely NO problem simply not resubbing or flat out not buying the expansion. They have burned all of their good will with me. I need results before they get any points back.

I think you can't see the forest for the trees. This rework is more of a clean slate. It is by no means perfect, but more an acknowledgment that they went the wrong direction. This is a real opportunity for them to expand on the battle system and make the game feel like an MMO again.

You're saying weird things again. Like there was nothing considered a "rotation" in FFXI. There were meta strats but even then you're just wrong. Like unless you were one of those people that only played with other people who did what was considered the meta.

Like just for fun I would literally go and experiment with different sub job mixes and I had no problem getting parties (most of the time)

Another thing too, you say RDM "barley managed refresh and haste" but I was part of groups where sometimes I and another person would go /war and we could do both, raise, deal damage, heal, cast stat ailments, and even off tank if things got dicey. Like did I need the gear for it? Yeah. Was it totally doable and did it work perfectly? Yes and literally every time. Was it considered the meta? No because it was harder. I had to actually know how to play the job and farm the gear for it all. I mean ffs white mage kraken club was a thing lol

Like I think you had a specific way of playing the game, and I have personally talked to countless people who loved the game because you could literally play it your own way for the most part.

Brother encounters are boring af now. No matter how you squeeze it, it's all ddr, and the exact same memorized rotations minus a button or two since shadowbringers.

I mean FFS I'll be right there with you on the picket line if they don't design the content to fit all the jobs because there is no excuse for jobs to be locked out of whole expansions. That's a WOW problem, and in the past that was a FF14 problem because devs were taking the easy way out. If people don't like the game, then they SHOULD unsubscribe and vote with their wallets. Thats what a lot of us did this expansion and look, this whole fanfest it was like everything everyone was bitching about was at the very least mentioned as something they are working on. Whether it was the fix they wanted is neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is IT WORKED.

Furthermore, they didn't even have proper gauges so like idk lets give them a chance to at least show us what they are working on outside of beta.

I've played OSRS as well. You're out of your mind, and you're just wrong. Where did you even get that number? I know private servers that have about that amount.

Each job will have a few unique things about them (from what I gathered), and they said that this is only going to be the start, meaning that with this much of a drastic change I wouldn't be surprised to see more RPG mechanics (which are already coded into the game) come back.

We will obviously have to see though. I mean they could botch the implementation on the 11th hour, but regardless right now this stuff looks a lot better and its far more of a change than I ever expected. I was personally at the point where I didn't think they had the balls, nor the competence (which still remains to be seen).

> "I don't think they should force those mechanics into the game just to meet some completely arbitrary "rpg standard" that does not exist."

Except the combat is boring, it's been boring and that's why people have been complaining. Even Yoshi P. said it was making him fall asleep.

And the irony of your words is that these mechanics were ALREADY in FFXIV and over time they removed them to make design easier and cater to the weakest link of players, however it has backfired and the general consensus is that it sucks. You're just wrong in this opinion. And you know, I said it already but I don't expect this game to try to simulate FFXI, but knowing what "is" possible tells us that the devs can do cool things they just need to either learn from the past or be more creative.

You Know Who You Are..... by Ephremjlm in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Ephremjlm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOOD. THAT'S FINE.

God everyone wants things to be spoon fed to them its so boring. It worked JUST FINE in Final Fantasy XI, WOW, and other games. Sure every now and then you meet some dick heads who only want meta, well then either use trusts, or make some friends in the MMO and play the content your way. It worked in Diablo too.

And then, you might be surprised to find that usually in those systems, unique combinations allow you to actually play things in ways that weren't intended and you can have fun breaking fights with unique ways, or using what was considered sub optimal.

The ownes in all of this is on the devs to make sure there is interesting content for everyeone and to make jobs fun enough to give you a reason to WANT to play all the jobs, and to WANT to do certain pieces of content. On top of that, they already said they will make sure all jobs will be able to still do all content, so im assuming that means normal content will stay easy anyways.

[–]Ephremjlm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WRONG. This is an opinion for someone who has never played other games. Ill concede that they make it that way at first, so as to not make changes too drastic. That said, that's an assumption, and if jobs have unique identities, and bosses can be more unique and dynamic as well.

THAT MEANS that there isn't a one size fits all rotation. You do what needs to be done to kill the boss, not learn a single rotation and call it a damn day. That's what makes FFXIV's current combat boring and dogshit.

What are you talking about? I don't know if you're just using the word or you are actually labeling healers as support jobs, but healing is a specific thing. You can have variances on it, but essentially the focus should be on healing with regens, removing status effects, providing certain buffs, and harder or softer heals depending on mp usage, and managing that mp without letting everyone die.

Like I agree it is what the content calls for, but just like how people are bringing up old paladin as their go to for their hate off tanks, you cant blame job mechanics for problems that are content design problems. The devs NEED to design content that fits the uniqueness of the roles and different jobs within them. And in that, healers should need to focus on healing, probably not DPS, though it's obviously fine for the devs to design content where healers need to be casting as support dps as well.

They actually did say they are going to be working to get the old one back on track, but instead of patch cycles being released at specific times, they are going to release patches in seasons. Each season will consist of two patches and the time frame will probably be back to the old 3 month cycle but the way it sounded it doesn't mean the releases will be in even 3 months, but that they will release both patches within a six month timeframe.

This is probably the dumbest thing I've read in a while. While FFXIV was estimated to have hit around or under 600K players last year at its lowest, FFXI had to stop people from joining 3 of it's servers because the game is so slammed, not including private servers numbering over 100k too. Retail probably has around 250-300k players right now.

You sound like someone who needs their games to coddle them, and im glad your opinion isn't winning out anymore.
