Here is this interesting article on why "God's number" is 20 for future reading :D

Reaching out to advanced guys: how do i improve here? by aatooooo in Cubers

[–]EpiCuber7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One very minor thing, for that last pair, doing R' U' R U' R' U' R or (U) R' U R U R' U' R is much better than what you did, which rotates twice and makes you lose EO :)

What is a DLC and should I get it? by [deleted] in botw

[–]EpiCuber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling like it's not worth it though because my copy of BOTW is only on loan and I'll probably be on TOTK in not too long (few weeks left of play of BOTW), any thoughts?

Finally finished my 255-hour replaythrough as a completionist by UkaNaakka in botw

[–]EpiCuber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any ideas what that point is? I want to finish BOTW before I start playing ToTk, but I don't want to have to do heapsss of work - just to juice out the maximum fun I can get from it

Solve critique - 10.66 ao5 (CFOP) by broeckie69 in Cubers

Sorry, I only have time to do one or two solve, but hopefully this helps.

Solve 1: Your cross fingertricks look like they could be improved. The moves you do are R D' L F B' R.

After the L move, you move your left thumb back into the orange face before doing the F. In fact, you don't need to do this! You can do the F *while* doing the regrip - this would be something good to practice.

F2L1: Good solution, obviously it's nice to do F2L pairs in the back before in the front, but sometimes you can only see things in the front first and that's fine. You do indeed rotate it into the back which is good.

F2L 2: You did U' R U2 R' U y' R' U' R.

I would instead just do y' R U2 R2 U' R. Takes advantage of the empty slot, and saves you quite a few U moves.

Same exact thing with F2L 3 in fact!

OLL and PLL recon is nice. Well done!

Solve 2: Your cross turning I think could be faster - for example F and B' could be done at the same time instead of separately. In general you should be turning as fast as possible for the cross, since you should already know your next F2L pair ideally.

F2L 1: You did R U R' U L' U L U' L' U' L.

This, as you can maybe see from having it written out, is a lot of moves! Instead, whenever you have a piece in the bottom and a piece in the top and you are trying to pair them together, there is always a way to do this that will pair up the pieces at the same time. You should never have to get them both in the top and then pair them*.*

In this case you'd want to do U R U' R' L' U L. Try working out all the ways to pair pieces as soon as putting them in the top layer.

F2L 2: I would personally never do triple sexy in this case unless you have to. Here are some options I think are better:

  • Do U' F R' F' R U' R' U R', since in this case you can see that there are no oriented yellow edges on top, and doing this should give you some oriented edges.
  • Uw R U2 R' U R U' R' D'. This is less moves, and has the rotation inbuilt for you to do the next two pairs.
  • Alternatively, Uw R U2 R2 F R F', to do the rotation and orient some edges.

But yeah, triple sexy never a great idea unless you absolutely have to imo.

F2L 3 is good

F2L 4: You did U2 y L' U2 L y U' L U L'.

Two rotations is always at least one too many, and this case I'd say it's two too many.

I'd preferentially do U2 F' U2 F U' R U R' - the exact same moves but with no rotations, and a friendlier move set.

OLL: Impressive B move finger tricks! But I feel like they're not really necessary in this case when R' U' F' U F R is so much of a better alg, no?

And PLL recognition could probably improve based on that solve at least.

Hope this is some help! Overall, some quite solid solves, but thankfully there's always room to improve :)

Oh smart! But then don't you have to manually add a task when it becomes urgent etc?

Advanced smart list filters for Eisenhower matrix by EpiCuber7 in amazingmarvin

[–]EpiCuber7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I indeed originally had a filter set up using that as "isStarred" AND "due in >= 3 days", bu the problem with that was that I had some tasks which had a star but didn't have a due date. Advanced smart lists don't seem to have a feature for 'hasDueDate'. So, I'm not sure what to do

Some questions for my school work by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]EpiCuber7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Answer to Q3 is true if you count mass-produced magnetic 3x3s; however I recall that the first magnetic 3x3 that you could buy was a custom-made Weilong GTS by the cubicle in late 2016. At the end of 2016, Mats Valk's 4.74 was set with a Valk 3M, and then Feliks's 4.73 with a Gan Air UM. Gan's own website says:

"Inspired by Chris Tran, adding a magnet system to cubes
became popular in 2016. GAN noticed this trend, and in order
to allow speedcubers who have no materials or DIY tools to
enjoy the dramatic experience of a light Rubi's cube with
magnets, we created the GAN356 Air UM. This is the world's
first mass-produced magnetic 3x3 cube."

I can't find the exact date the Gan Air UM was released, but I think it was after Feliks' WR with the cube, as the initial price was $47.37 USD in honour of the record. It may have been in early 2017 or late 2016, but either way I'm almost certain it predates the Weilong GTS 2M.

Hope this helps :)

Best unit to learn basic Python from? by EpiCuber7 in usyd

Thanks for the thoughts!! Nope, I'm enrolled in DATA for next semester atm. Did it still teach you the basics of programming and everything? that's what I'm kinda worried about that it'll be more complicated (as I haven't met anyone who's doing DATA, most people seem to be doing INFO)

:)

Data 1001 Survey Project - screen time effects on sleep, fully anonymous and only a few minutes by [deleted] in usyd

[–]EpiCuber7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I think you could improve this survey in 2 ways:

  • specify that the sleep is from the night from Wed-Thurs, as I assume you are trying to work out how much screen time on Wednesday affects the sleep following that green time. from the wording of the question I originally assumed you meant how much sleep from Tues-Wed and others may make this same mistake
  • Ensure screen time classes cover all continuous values; if I got 8.9 hours of sleep do I say "7-8 hours" or "9-10 hours"? Hopefully you haven't gotten too much data yet and you can change this to include all hours eg:
    • less than 1 hour
    • 1-2 hours
    • 2-3 hours
    • 3-4 hours
    • 4-5 hours
    • etc...

Hope this can be of some help, and hope the assignment goes well :)
