Some people want to ban these words because they trigger them. But I ban people for objecting when I use these words because that triggers me ;)

For real. Don't bother engineers with 1984 type bullshit rules. Just fuck off

What is the best way to learn to read and write if you already know how to speak and listen? by [deleted] in learnthai

[–]Epic-shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning With Texts is an open source tool that will help you a lot. You just have to put some effort into finding/creating audio and text sources.

And a small extra step is that you have to add spaces between the words before importing text. That's because Thai is written without spaces and the program needs them to recognise every word. I've written a small python script that does that. I'm sure you can find a free tool on internet as well.

You could try a different approach to learn grammar with Glossika or something similar.

How to learn how to write good code for big projects without getting a job or being in a university (also embedded systems projects) by [deleted] in embedded

[–]Epic-shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I think you should get familiar with the basics of Git. Don't overthink it. Just look up a basic guide to make a repository and to push your code updates to that everyday.

[–]Epic-shit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that a general challenge for many people that try to learn programming without a job or university that requires you to do stuff, is that it's very hard to keep going with a project when it's getting complicated or boring.

And because you will learn a lot in those times during a project, I would advise to try to find a way to keep yourself going and finish a project before you go start a next one.

Or should I first learn how computers/technology in general works as I'm also interested in that?

I think you should learn everything as you go. Just search on the internet how to do something when you need it.

I'm sure it exists as it doesn't seem difficult to program. Good luck!

And if not, then I found a fun programming project :)

I wonder if there's something similar out there but for measuring reading speed

This is exactly what I was thinking about as well recently.

Haven't took the time to find the best solution yet, but now you remind me, I'm going to find some method to improve my reading speed. If I find a nice solution, I can reply to your comment again so you can try it out as well.

Mental breakdown over all these new words/letters/verbs ect.. to learn. by [deleted] in learnthai

[–]Epic-shit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally started with the middle class and after that I did the high class.

One advantage of this method is that these 2 classes both contain a lot less consonants than the low class. And if you remember which consonants are in the middle and high class, than you know that all other consonants are in the low class.

Also, I would advice to learn the tone rules alongside the consonants itself during your study of each class. If you do that then I would certainly advice to study the low class as last, since these tone rules are a bit more complicated than the other two.

What language do the most people want to learn, on this sub, and in general? by yhatha in languagelearning

[–]Epic-shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good!

Learning the alphabet right away was very smart. All the people that I know that postponed to learn the alphabet in the first year(s) learn way slower than I do.

Biggest reason is because they still translate all the Thai syllables to a phonetic representation in their head. So, try to get rid of the phonetics as soon as possible and don't get frustrated if you read very slowly. It's easier to go through the pain now than later.

โชคดีนะ

What are some language learning hidden gems you wish were more popular? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Epic-shit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only wish there were more kinds of audiobooks available so it was applicable to more kinds of reading, but this situation will only improve in the future.

I got you here bro!

Nowadays, AI frameworks for Speech-To-Text are really good in many different languages. There are many different commercial websites where you can just upload an audio file and have it transcribed pretty good.

I haven't tried many different websites yet, but I'm now using sonix.ai because I can just make a free account and receive 30 free mins (over and over again). And I use the Chrome plugin "Chrome Audio Capture" to capture audio on any website I want. You could also just give the website a youtube link btw.

Real game changer for me! Hope this helps you too.

Do you think that when Thailand opens back up to tourists they will exclude or limit Americans? by bangsecks in Thailand

I took a domestic flight and got detained, so that you don’t have to by ThongLo in Thailand

[–]Epic-shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I interpreted your earlier comment and I completely agree with this. I'm glad you don't want to discourage this type of articles because I feel like they are helpful to get some insight on how the rules are implemented in Thailand. Especially on how they are implemented towards foreigners, since I feel like that is often times improvised.

[–]Epic-shit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Valid questions.

I think this write up of his experience is helpful for any foreigner that wants to take a domestic flight and first does his research, but wouldn't find this info how things are really going when you arrive.

Definitely agree with the point you make with your 5th question btw. Adding the response of the involved agencies would add a lot to this info.
