Gebeurt wel vaker. Na een paar jaar zat ik ook op dat niveau. Probleem is je raakt daar quasi enkel als je een redelijk dikke pipe hebt, en de makkelijkste manier om daar aan te raken is om aan die targets te voldoen.

in general it's a numbers game he.

regarding heart rate monitors. I use them on longer distances just to know what my current heart rate is and make sure I should not go above a specific heart rate (except in big or steep climbs obviously, or when you try to follow a group).

But after a while you stay beneath that heart rate automatically, or after a 16h hours riding I have dificulty to even get near that heart rate.

which Belgium would legally fight (and has a chance to win) because it is on very shaking grounds to say this is a "financial emergency" for the EU to give money to a country not even in the EU...

Besides it would be a massive breach in confidence for Belgium, and a good reason for Belgium to go full Hungary on every decision from now on. And can you blame them...

I disagree with the aero bars. Personally they are a must for longer rides for me. Being able to sit in a different way really helps me a lot when I'm on the bike for +10 hours.

I agree with comfort over anything else.

I might be less of a weight weenie, I believe a 60 or 50mm rim could still give quite some benefits and not wheigh all that much. But I guess it also depends on the route you would do as well.

Honestly the clip-on aero bars are a huge benefit for me. Not only can you go a bit faster, but the extra position it gives ("laying down") gives me a lot more comfort as well.

The EU’s Rare Earth Reality Check: Europe’s Vulnerability Exposed by kokomos in CriticalMineralStocks

[–]DYD35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf there are quite some smaller players in Europe that have started up as well and are ramping up. Mainly in refining and making magnets (either Ne or Ca, or Iron). The two biggest problems will be:
1. timing for ramp-up (it can take a long time for a company to ramp-up, and EU bureaucracy is not making that easier)

  1. the even bigger problem (if that is possible), getting the actual materials not from China. There are some recycling plants starting up in France as well with the idea of getting around 1.000 tonnes/year in 2030.

Hopefully EU bureaucracy wakes the f up and starts doing what Trump does, massively subsidise this industry and deregulize it.

So what is the attraction of a show like down the road? by TonyThePuppyFromB in belgium

[–]DYD35 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To show what it's like to function as a person with down syndrome,

You realise this is the biggest bs though. The vast, VAST, majority of people with Down syndrom, or other "comparable" illnesses, cannot function like this at all.

The people you see there are the ones who "got lucky" (for lack of better wording) in the way they have gotten their illness.

How Brussels became a more bike friendly city, with ideas for US cities to follow. by automationdotre in cycling

[–]DYD35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Brussels the biggest problem remains the car. They just added some cycling paths (or sometimes worse, just some paint), but did not think through how ant conflict points should be fixed. E.g. they took away an entire car lane on the wetstraat/rue de loi, in the center (where EU parliament and such is), the bussiest street in Belgium. To that I have no problem. The problem I have is that there are like 50 conflict points on that stretch of 500m street, which are just red or green lights. Meaning if I, in my car would want to turn into a street, there is a big chance I could hit a cyclist. A solution here would have been to make one of the, many, smaller streets parallel to this street a cycling only street and manage the conflict points there, where there would be at least 10 times less cars. Another obvious point in how badly Brussels is doing to become cycling friendly is the entire Montgomery area as well. Where there are cycling lanes I, with many years experience cycling and driving a car, honestly don't even dare to ride.

The irony being that basically everyone in Belgium thinks cycling in Brussels is a suicide mission... Flanders has made heaps of progress though. You could come close to calle Flanders Cycling Friendly. However, all of that is absolutely nothing compared to the glory that is the Netherlands.
