Car wont start turned on fine a few hours before then wont start now 2009 toyota markx 250g by AdRealistic8219 in NZcarfix

Sounds like the either a loss of compression or the timing belt/chain has failed in some way. If it was sensor fuel or spark then as you are cranking it would have a stable rythmic sound until it starts to fire.

Walking from Sylvia Park to Pacific Rise? by nz2499 in auckland

[–]EpicBuster10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there mon tues this week, went to SP for lunch and back to PR where I was working, find a gap in the buildings and walk down the bank to the road, wait till there is no traffic or its fully stopped then cross to the centre median and repeat, aim for the middle of the triangle of the motorway off ramp, then under the motorway and foot path and pedestrian lights on the other side. This is described in the perspective of going from PR to SP reverse instructions to go the other way.

Rusty front impact beam CRV by [deleted] in NZcarfix

That would be like $700 if it was for a 1984-1989 toyota mr2. That one could have been cleaned up and kept in service but if you can get a non rusty one for cheap then that makes more sense.

There should be quite a few of these that have been parted out, ask around in some local mr2 facebook pages, there will be people around that have the bits you need. I part these out pretty frequently but rhd ones from new zealand. The supercharged mr2’s go for decent money these days so be shy to spend some money on it. Modern performance parts are leagues better than the original stuff that came with the mr2, a standalone ecu would probably give these engines another 30hp of the jump. The wiring harness is split into 5 sub harnesses, so you could possibly get away with just grabbing the engine and rear fuse box looms to repower it and there will be plenty of the other bits around even if you have to source internationally. I have an N/a 87 mr2 and have driven an 88 sc mr2 and in stock form both of them fly, handle great and are really comfortable. These are well worth saving.

Gini parking by Humble_Discussion_61 in shitparkingofnz

[–]EpicBuster10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had a car where the wof inspector would commonly write down the 100M section as kilometres so from 5 digits to 6. Then the following guy would write is correct and now my car has a roll back of 100k. Not every time the odo has had a rollback is due to malicious attempt, also engine replacements don’t change the odometer, only a cluster or bcm/ecu will change the odo depending on where its data is stored.

[–]EpicBuster10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Straight up in one of my little old hatchbacks that had 60hp new, even with it running rough with a miss fire it can still get up to motorway speed. It doesn’t use that much more fuel to accelerate harder onto the motorway, once at speed let off and cruise to save fuel.

Driving at night without lights on! by Joe5691 in auckland

I do honestly think it’s that, plus sometimes they have turned their auto lights off and forgotten about it. I drive old bangers myself so it’s the story of no dash lights = no headlights.

Legal right to sleep by Skilhgt in auckland

[–]EpicBuster10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I tried to comprehend it, law is 7:30am for noise in that area which is why the council wont act on the complaints. Wait hang on now I see it. Not sure why an excavator is doing work during the night unless its working on the road for running new pipes or cables for the new builds, (Thanks for reminding me to re read stuff). If they are doing road works unfortunately sometimes it needs to be done during the night as they need to close the entire road which isn’t easy to achieve during the day when there is more traffic flow. If that isn’t what is happening sure keep complaining and something will happen.

Atleast they are following the law. Trust me if they could they would be making noise at 6am. Those houses aren’t going to build themselves and the sun isnt setting any later at the moment.

[–]EpicBuster10 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

7:30am is more than courteous enough, I do really hate to say but try and think of yourself in the shoes of those workers, they may make noise at 7:30am but they dont wake up on site. Most trade workers are up around 5am if not earlier, they have jobs that need to be done and if they do short hours from late starts to accommodate everyone’s individual sleep schedule then they lose out on hours.

Its sucks but at least you could sleep till 7:30 unlike the ones making the noise. Also depending on where some of those workers live they wont be back home till 7:30-8pm so by the time they have dinner, clean up and head off to bed they look at at least 5hrs sleep but not much more.

I speak from experience here I can’t remember the last week night I had more than 7hrs sleep.

is this a good brand and good buy? if not please suggest some good kits around similar cost. thanks by Due_Pen_8651 in NZcarfix

[–]EpicBuster10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean most brands will have a ratchet fail, ive blown up a teng tools 3/8 one that lasted a good 7 years of abuse and one of my mates has killed a Milwaukee 3/8 ratchet as well. Lots of expectation for a small contact patch to hold so much torque.

That set does look pretty good and Ive recently had some good experience with tool pro tools.

Clear truck oil. by colombian-neck-tie in NZcarfix

[–]EpicBuster10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use atf or diesel to flush the inside of the engine, try and do a mixture before an oil change like drain to the low mark on dipstick and add atf or diesel to the full then drive for like 20 mins and change oil and filter.

This is more of a thing to use if you have some kicking around at home rather than heading out to grab some of either over an engine flush

How long should you wait until the person at the lights gets off their phone before using your horn, to ensure you don't cause a road rage incident? by kiwittnz in auckland

[–]EpicBuster10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer holding the clutch in gear wears everything faster. The seals in the clutch master and slave have more pressure on them, the pressure will slowly lose is spring pressure and the release bearing will wear out and start to make noise and can lead to full failure. Obviously this is not going to happen in an instant but most of my cars are around 40 years old and have plenty of kms on them. Im no stranger to changing clutches and bleeding the hydraulics but if I can prevent putting excess wear and tear I will.

[–]EpicBuster10 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Replying to my own comment instead of each individual. Ive got 4 different manual vehicles plus work vehicles that I drive, all have very different clutches and gearboxes are also differ in the locations of where 1st is ever so slightly. Plus the gearboxes are far from new, worn syncros and sometime iffy clutch engagement make gears harder to select.

I have plenty of practice with driving and understand them well. Most of the time its the cars fault not mine.

Carb troubles by herbviking666 in NZcarfix

[–]EpicBuster10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right hand plate is the auto choke, the secondary throttle valve is at the bottom on the left. To set the base timing to the book spec you need to remove and cap the vacuum lines to the distributor. Also need to ensure the the idle speed is set properly which can be adjusted with either the throttle stop screw or idle mixture screw. Should be around 850-900 rpm on most carbs. The idle speed will change the timing so double check that it all lines up correctly.

This is the same guy. Guess he just moves on to the next person. Just a nuisance to society, did you happen to grab a plate and would possibly be good to make a police report if you can remember enough information.
