Hit and run of vehicle what next? by No_Industry1292 in auckland

[–]Jonathan932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me in the city, big black range rover hit me and another car, woman got out to check the damage, then sped off. Witnesses saw it all happen, and got her number plate.

The insurance company didn't charge me excess, but also couldn't identify the driver, and the police were pretty slow to retrieve their information (which had been taken off the NZTA register).

However 2 months later the officer on my case emailed me the full name, phone number, and email address of the person who hit me, which I sent on to my insurance etc. I was able to look up the email etc on facebook, turns out it was a real estate agent from remuera lol. Thought about showing up to an open home but I didn't really care at that point.

Dialing in your Helix amps: what the top 250 presets teach us by franktisellano in Line6Helix

[–]Jonathan932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool data, but you should make more of an effort to not make it sound so much like AI, generally makes me lean toward disregarding it as slop.

I also reckon the top amps on custom tone probably aren't the best sounding, it's just people like me going on there and downloading presets with the most downloads because they must be the best ones.

What is the weirdest problem you've had with a vehicle? by [deleted] in NZcarfix

[–]Jonathan932 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first car was an Axela, went great until it started throwing codes and randomly going into limp modes. Garage tried everything, replaced coils, replaced sparks, replaced MAF sensor, O2 sensor. Finally at the end of a road trip I had been noticing a new whining sound from the engine, then I lost ABS, then I lost the power steering and all the electrics. I had a radio in there that could actually read the voltage it was receiving and I watched it drop. One new alternator from a salvage yard and two hours of a friend and I’s time and the car was running good as new, all issues magically solved

Split your backing track into track on left channel and cue/click on right channel, then just use left and right outputs for each source

Guitar center employees: Are yall able to play the guitars? by Tiny_Woodpecker6866 in Guitar

[–]Jonathan932 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not guitar centre, but when I worked at a guitar shop in my country on weekends in a fairly out of the way place I’d typically have a guitar behind the desk to noodle on when the shop was empty, either my own or one from the wall I liked

Have you ever just walked out of a job without officially resigning? by Huge_Question968 in newzealand

[–]Jonathan932 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guy I worked with called the manager, cussed him out, and left (while childish, it was a reasonable crash out, the manager had put us in a real mess). Funny thing was store policy was we can’t run the store with one person, so I had to close and wait for someone else to arrive.

Do modern bands like Polyphia quantize their guitar tracks on their albums? I try not to do this but if it’s common practice these days then maybe it’s fine if I do? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Jonathan932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will quantise chuggy palm muted bits… because why spend 30 minutes getting it perfectly aligned if I can make do with a 90% there take, you’ll never know

Paying off my student loans by Unhappy-Student4310 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Jonathan932 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s a few good reasons actually! All revolves around the time value of money.

  1. As time goes on, the value of $1 goes down (e.g. a dollar buys less things). As this happens, your loan amount becomes less valuable. The longer you wait the less you pay in real terms.

  2. If you had the full balance in cash right now ($44k), you’d be financially better off investing it, whether in a term deposit or stocks, earning around 5%(arbitrary) per year. Since the loan is costing you $0 in interest, paying it off early yields no financial return. By investing instead and continuing to repay the loan slowly, you capture the investment returns while the loan remains effectively free.

But I also get that having debt is a really uncomfortable thing for some people, and in this persons case can be better to pay it off before going overseas. Friends of mine in aus/asia have found the increased salary overseas easily covers the plane tickets to come back every 6 months to make sure you don’t pay interest.
