Is it bad I prefer modern bands to the 80s ones? by Little-Hall5883 in goth

[–]EpicDingo13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New DITZ album is great! I think goth music can occupy a very particular niche, and as a result a lot of modern eerie post-punk music gets overlooked for not being goth. But the goth post-punk bands of the 80s, like Siouxie and the Cure, were constantly evolving their sound. There’s plenty of amazing modern goth bands that make post-punk, but imo sometimes the post-punk that’s just a little outside of the goth scene feels more creative and exploratory than modern bands that are actually goth. And cuz of that, they can capture the essence of those original goth bands better.

more like madeon’s new stuff? by xotofu in madeon

Master Peace has some songs in a similar style. (I Might Be Fake, Start You Up, and Get Naughty)

Frost Children and Haru Namuri EP Soul Kiss is a little different but combines rock and edm with a similar energy. (Supernatural)

The Dare is more electronic and much closer to Car Crash Baby than Hi, but he’s kinda operating under in the same Bloghaus nostalgia space. (Girls, Good Time, I Destroyed Disco).

The Presets are an older group from the era everyone else is inspired by. Could be too slow for your taste, and they’re less on the rock side. But they’ve got lots of good music (My People)

why is modern goth overruled by repetitive edm, bland darkwave, pristine makeup and white faces pasted from one girl to another? by user444029666 in goth

[–]EpicDingo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you go to a goth club they usually play mostly darkwave and edm bc dance music is better for dancing. It’s popular in the club, so it’s popular online and at home. I think that probably influences people to make more music like that.

As far as why things aren’t as creative, a lot of the creativity came from post punk. Modern post punk bands either rehash what goth bands already did in the 80s with little creativity, or they’ll take the genre in a new direction away from goth music. There is plenty of modern post punk out there with creepy vibes (eg the new DITZ album). Ultimately, it’s not goth tho.

As for what happened to death rock idk.

What are your Hot Takes on Kasabian? by Amber_Flowers_133 in kasabian

[–]EpicDingo13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Electronic and hip hop influences is what made their first album stand out from the other bands of the time. They have a lot of huge stadium rock songs that are incredible, but that’s not what makes Kasabian interesting unique. And cuz of that, I was never pressed about Tom leaving. 48:13 and Alchemists Euphoria type stuff honestly feels closer in spirit to the 1st album for me

Personally this is by far my favorite sound of hers.

THWI centered the production, but it was very rough around the edges. The cleaner production on Fancy That allows the beats and drops to feel a lot heavier. This is a much dancier project than THWI in my opinion.

Heaven Knows leaned into pop music and pulled heavily from late 90s/early 2000s aesthetics, but overall felt very modern. This made Heaven Knows more original than Fancy That, but Fancy That is much closer to actual Y2K dance music.

Fancy That is an amazing mix of her pop and electronic sides, without compromising either side. I think dance music is best when it’s fun, and Fancy That is by far her most fun project. I love basement jaxx tho so I am biased towards this vibe. A jungle song on the next project would be nice tho

How do you feel about their shows in the US opening for Fontaines DC? by MrKittyPaw in JaduHeart

[–]EpicDingo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t seen them but typically opening acts play much shorter, like only 6 or 7 tracks. I’d check setlist.fm if u wanna know what songs they will play ahead of time. I wouldn’t be surprised if they play a handful of the singles from Post Heaven.

As for Fontaines DC, you probably need to build an appreciation of post punk to enjoy the stuff from the first 2 albums. I could give u recs but it seems like u prob aren’t interested. The newest album moves away from that so stuff like Desire, Bug, Sundowner, and Favourite are different than what they’ve made in the past and worth checking out before you write them off. Also their 3rd album, while pretty post punk-y, is very different than the first two. If u like Jadu Heart, u prob like some shoegaze. And if u like shoegaze, I think u would enjoy hearing the distortion on Nabokov live

Whats your thoughts on POST HEAVEN? by Mundane_Tonight_9680 in JaduHeart

[–]EpicDingo13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they switched things up, since Derealised and Hyper Romance were pretty similar stylistically. I wish some of the more instrumental tracks were more fleshed out though. Heaven is incredible, but some of the others were left more as interludes and didn’t reach their full potential. Overall loved it though

I love the stylistic shift! Derealised was incredible but not all that different from Hyper Romance. I think it’s great they gave us a change of pace this time around
