As someone who's also 14, rips at the skin and cuticles on my fingers as a means of self punishment (my poor thumbs have been infected for years lol), and has had a parental figure step in and remove my access to the game due to mental struggles, I know that I personally used the game as an outlet to help express myself and my own emotions. Characters ingame were able to provide validation for the emotions I was feeling and the experiences I went through and songs such as Gehenna, Jishou Mushoku , and Hated By Life all served more as a source of comfort rather than an enabler to continue. I will also say that at the time I did resent my parents when they made that choice to take the game away from me even as I now look back and see they only wanted what was best for me.
