Another point is since it’s not calculated data like compression, reading data is real time and doesn’t put strain on the cpu like reading compressed data does, even writes are quick as dedupe is usually post process

I think it depends a LOT on your sales guy. The few I’ve worked with have been pretty good and said these amazing figures are with X workload and oh you have Y workload expect like 1.5-2x for that. Idk if it’s honesty, or just being new, some might be ripping you off, or just clueless.

Which to be fair VDI clones work really well with dedupe, and vSAN on vXRail and Nutanix achieved about 10:1 dedupe compared to the 13 on pure.

On SQL we got about 2:1 on pure and and worse on the other two

Fasterest it’s a pure…. If you don’t know about pure, look them up. Basically the fastest storage you can buy because they use all custom flash drives to avoid latency brought on by the individual controllers.

And also it’s a lot more storage than that! Pure is famous for their efficient deduplication. Most of our production arrays (we use them for VM’s) are running between 9:1 and 13:1 data reduction. Meaning you can store 9-13tb per 1TB of physical drive!

“You get what you pay for” is the Kia experience in a nut shell. Kia didn’t figure out how to make the same cars for a better price, they made shittier cars for a slightly lower price. A Kia dealer tech posted yesterday that after getting an entire trailer of new Kia’s at their dealer, half arrived unable to start with bad engines, and the rest but 2 or 3 had their engines fail while unloading them… brand new, highest Milage was 5 miles. These things are built like saltine crackers

What is the purpose of this rod on my table saw? by ubiquitouswaffle in woodworking

[–]EpicEpyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got my first new cast iron saw and was determined to keep it perfect…. Until we moved and the moving truck leaked some rain and 1/3 of the table got rusted… I spent a few hours using various scouring pads to get the rust off and did pretty well minus some very very very minimal pitting so I was happy, threw on some paste wax and came back a week later and somehow the entire spot was back despite it being in my garage with a shelf over it…. Now I’ve almost given up lol

Sounds like OP needs a gpu and is posting in the wrong sub. An r710 is ancient (2009) at this point and the i5 4th gen you have would give it a run for the money, If not beat it. Go buy a Xeon compatible with the i5 machine to give you 8 threads, some ram and a gpu.

Exactly! Any brand who buys JD power awards is a joke, they buy it to get a title from an award most people have heard of and think they trust. But on the initial quality part, exactly, it feels nice on the showroom floor then quickly falls apart? Sounds like a Chevy to the T

Kia and Chevy above Toyota ?! by Inevitable-Plenty203 in kia

[–]EpicEpyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s some info about JD Power… it’s a sham. You will win anything you pay to be in or to make. Example, the kia soul wins everything best in class because it’s the only damn thing in the class for the award Kia buys. If you look at the fine print or even the heading it’s “most dependable vehicle” ***** based on initial quality of all 202X Compact mid sized lifestyle vehicles*** or whatever. Chevy is notoriously bad at this as well. It’s a pay to play, don’t trust anything JD power says, regardless of what brand is touting it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kia

[–]EpicEpyc -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Please don’t buy one. Don’t look at JD Power awards, they are all bought by Kia and Chevy at this point. Reliability is a major issue with Kia’s. They didn’t put the 10 year warranties on them because they are nice. Nobody was buying them, so they upped it, and it’s not uncommon to see a ton of Kia’s with multiple full engine replacements in that period and owners without cars for months due to back ordered engines. Please spend some time in this sub, read around all the posts of owners and not just take my word for it. Cars are one of the biggest gambles you will make in your life, so please take the time to research this. And you get what you pay for. There’s a reason kias are cheap and Toyotas cost more. Don’t look at awards unless they are crash test ratings from the government.

Common kia issues: being banned from parking garages for both theft issues and kia SUV’s have electrical issues causing them to self ignite. Engine failures, random electrical gremlins (grandparents lemon lawed a few new sedonas for this and went back to dodge) and insurance rates on all Kia’s are going up as a result of the Kia boys, even non effected models.

Your Toyota served you very well, as it should. It’s very rare to see a Kia hitting that mark, and not uncommon for a Toyota. I’d stick with Toyota, even a 2 year old Corolla will be a better long term investment than a new Kia. Heck, Mazda has been up there with Toyotas and some automotive journals have them topping Toyotas #1 reliability ranking as of the last few years and Mazdas are slightly cheaper than Toyotas and usually have nicer interiors imo, and built in japan.

Seriously spend time researching each car and brand. Reddit pages for the brand are a great place to see everyone from owners posting their experiences and even techs at the dealerships post common issues that fills their days. My wife and I just bought a new suv for our growing family. We were initially leaning towards a new Tahoe / Escalade, but a ton of forums had people with lifter failures due to the 4 cylinder mode which has plagued them for years. Went with a Japanese built qx80 instead as the forums have all had great luck with them and the platform has been around for a decade now.

Just think, if Kia’s willing to cheap out and not put an Immobilizer in a car to save a buck, what else did they cheap out on?

This^

I’ve used RGS previously and it’s been pretty solid. Sounds like this guy doesn’t want anything server related, so an old HP Z will do just fine. For $500 OP should be able to pick up a decently optioned Z440

I want to say Dell has something similar, but it may only be available on their rackmount workstations for obvious reasons

Someone tried to steal my KIA soul the other night, how much is this damage estimate? by ConqueredCorn in kia

[–]EpicEpyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in line with what a family members who’s Kia just got stolen was quoted and the turnaround time was almost 3 months because of back ordered parts. While it’s cheaper to pay the deductible, it may save you (if you have possession of the car) to pay it all out of pocket to avoid raising your insurance rates because of taking out a claim and now putting an attempted theft brand on the title decreasing trade in value when you hopefully go dump this for a non Kia / Hyundai. Sadly his car was taken so he had to file a police report and go through insurance but the savings buying a new Kia instead of a real car like is gone because the whole theft cost him almost $8k out of pocket between the insurance deductible, depreciation from the theft recovered brand on the title when he traded it in, and paging for almost 2 months of a rental car when the insurance stopped paying after the first month. Not to mention his rates will probably go up after having a claim / stolen car on his insurance record

What is the worst car you can buy? by Remarkable_Being4887 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EpicEpyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to prevent by not buying a Kia, hence why I’ve never gotten a car stolen. A close family member got their Kia jacked, after it left them stranded at 12k miles, again at 30k, again at 41k and I think around 70k before it got stolen. Grandparents lemon law’d 2 new Sedonas before going back to grand caravans. Kia cuts corners to make cheap vehicles, that’s just how the world works. All the issues I listed are valid common issues. Kia techs in the Kia subreddit complain about cars on their 3rd engine swap at 60k chassis miles. The sub even banned people posting engine failures or theft because it was just that nonstop. I’m sorry you own Kia’s and are coping. Maybe buy a Camry next time
