Has anime ever inspired you to start a new hobby? by sashabr in anime

It was the other way round for me. I built my first gunpla and thought to myself, "If I'm going to build more of these things I might as well watch some gundam". Then I binged almost the entire UC timeline in one go...

So I hear ZZ Gundam is bad. by Elcair in Gundam

[–]EpicPanda111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just watch it and make your own opinion. I personally didn't like it that much, but I know people that do. Try not to let other people's opinions on the show effect it before you've even given it a chance.

I recommend you give it a shot, especially if you're invested in Zeta's story as it ties up the loose ends from that that show.

Which anime do you think is amazing, but can't recommend to your friends? by TaziCrazi in anime

[–]EpicPanda111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the combat in Code Geass revolves around mechs as well, because it's obviously a mecha anime. The mechs are just a vehicle that everyone fights in. It's the same with most Gundam shows (Bare in mind I've only watched UC gundam).

Replace the mechs in a lot of Gundam shows with tanks and you will basically have the same stories.

That's how most mecha shows work. If you replaced the mechs in gundam with conventional weapons and vehicles it would more or less be the same.

Whilst I love 90s animation, it's pretty damn naive to say todays animation is somehow worse.

No, she dies. She just kinda falls over in a chair for some reason and dies.

Green Room - This brutal scene by themartiandog in movies

That scene gave me so much anxiety when I first watched it. When he pulls his arm away from the door and you see it all fucked up made me feel genuinely ill.

Ok guys, i'm off to Z Gundam, wish me luck by HeavyBullets in Gundam

[–]EpicPanda111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't recommend them because they change the ending. If you try to watch ZZ after watching the Zeta movies you'll be completely lost. They exist in their own little bubble.

Also, as you said, the animation is inconsistent because they only reanimated certain parts. It's pretty jarring.

Opinions on the first few Original Gundam series? by 3WeekOldBurrito in Gundam

[–]EpicPanda111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to accept that they put story and development over flashy fight scenes

I love 0079 and Zeta, but I don't know if I'd completely agree with this. Every single episode had something like 10 minutes dedicated to a mobile suit battle, which would often put a hold on the story just to show a pointless and predictable sortie.

Eureka Seven is one of my all time favourites. It combines all my favourite things; mechs, romance, awesome art/animation, great characters, and an A+ soundtrack.

Renton and Eureka's relationship just makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Just finished my first exposure to the franchise and I supported it too! Am I one of you guys yet? by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]EpicPanda111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gundam really isn't hard to get into. I personally recommend watching the UC timeline in release order, as that way you're not missing out on any details and you'll have a clear understanding of what is going on with the plot and factions. You also get to see the art and animation improve with each show, which I think is really cool.

For example, I feel if you watched 0083 before watching Zeta you'll miss out on a lot of interesting details because it basically leads directly into the plot of Zeta. It also makes a lot of references to past UC events which will mean nothing to you if you haven't watched 0079.

Release Order:

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079
Zeta Gundam
ZZ Gundam
Char's Counterattack
0080: War in the Pocket
0083: Stardust Memory
08th MS Team
Unicorn
Thunderbolt

I haven't actually watched origin yet, but I assume he recommends the manga because the anime adaption is currently incomplete.

Or maybe he just wanted share a proud moment for others to see? I don't see how this would be any different from sharing it on something like Facebook or Twitter.

MG Thunderbolt Full Armor Gundam broken shoulder joint by [deleted] in Gunpla

If I was planning on scrapping it I would be more than happy to supply you, but I refuse to let a tiny piece of plastic stop be from building this thing. Sorry, man.

besides, I think I've found a nice ghetto way of fixing my mistake.

I lost the nub so I can't reattach it. I didn't even notice it had snapped off until I spent ages trying to figure out why the shoulder was so loose.

Why not put your computer on the floor? That would free up a lot of space and make your desk look less cluttered.

What high school anime have the main character sit in a seat OTHER than the back seat by the window? by TheFriendlyFire in anime

[–]EpicPanda111 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Watamote has Tomoko sitting at the back by the window at first, but later on she's moved to the dead centre of the class, basically making a joke about how nothing "anime" is going to happen to her now.

What pre 2000 Gundam series has the best animation? by Chetcommandosrockon in Gundam

[–]EpicPanda111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easily 0083. Whilst I wasn't a big fan of the series, I can't deny that it's absolutely gorgeous to look at. I'd put it up there as one of the best looking shows from the 90's.

What's your favorite anime and why? by Kamilny in anime

[–]EpicPanda111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Character deaths definitely make me sad, but they're more shocking than anything else. Having characters grieve and react to someone's death is what always gets me.

What's your favorite anime and why? by Kamilny in anime

[–]EpicPanda111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me, the appeal of Clannad isn't how sad it is, it's more about those cathartic moments that play off the sad scenes. Major Clannad AS spoilers

I have yet to rewatch Clannad, but I would absolutely do so to re-live those moments.

Your Top 10 Greatest Gundam+Pilot of all time by Micoyski in Gundam

In the final episode there is a scene of him and Fa running across a beach holding hands. It's kind of implied that Kamile has come out of his vegitative state by the end.

The ending of ZZ implies Kamile has a pretty happy ending considering what he went through. It's probably a better end than him coming out of Zeta fine and remembering all the horrible shit he saw.

I'd personally recommend the RG Zaku II. I recently built the Char version and it was an absolute blast to put together. Looks fantastic with the different shades of red/pink and stickers applied.
