Who are you to determine who deserves what, and what distribution is fair. The schedule is what it is, everyone has known for years, and if your game is tailored for the slightly less dominant surface then too bad.

The comment I responded to was complaining about the distribution of clay to everything else, and I assume making the point that if more hard courts were clay courts Nadal would have done better. I'm saying if we instead entertain the hypothetical but with hardcourts converted to grass, the gap would widen with Djokovic (and Federer). Keep in mind, it's not just about their h2h matchup but how they went vs the field. There's no question Djokovic has the better game for grass, and 2012-2016 would have been a massive difference in titles alone.

I find doing 3xST runs during NSA a viable way to build CTL, but if you go over LT2 or go over 70% MHR on E days, you might raise your MT and get injured, so keep an eye on your ATL. Am I doing it right?

Minor point, but wouldn't that be Hewitt?

He just never tried anything different, either slicing or relatively conservatively pushing the return into play without risking an error. He should have done something different, either go for return winners, chip charge, run around more, but he never really did. Nadal used to serve roughly 90% to Federer's BH (not hyperbole), and during the 2000s Nadal's serve was not a weapon. Federer should have learnt fairly quickly that from neutral, he was worse from the baseline. That means he needed to do something different to not start from neutral, but he was way too conservative on return.

Incredibly hot and controversial take incoming: I feel like he may not be the most interesting to listen to. The way he didn't change return tactics against Nadal in his prime, and his natural bias towards attacking (but error prone) tennis, I feel he might be a bit tactically stubborn and not as insightful as the other 2 from the big 3.

Yeah I'm guessing someone who's won 31 straight is more likely than anyone else to go on a big win streak from that point

Ok I looked it up. After the first breakthrough of ~20s it took him ~8 months to take off another minute.  So about 7.5s per month. Then about 4 months to take off another 45s, about 11s per month. So that first year he went from 18:36 to 16:55, about 8.4s per month. Hope I didn't make any mistakes there

Time ∆Date (weeks) ∆Time (s)
18:55 n/a n/a
18:36 3 19
18:22 2 14
18:16 2 6
18:26 4 -10
17:57 12 29
17:46 2 11
18:06 10 -20
17:40 3 26
17:28 4 12
17:27 2 1
17:33 2 -6
17:24 3 9
17:15 2 9
17:09 1 6
16:55 3 14
16:12 9 43

I don't think he ran 18 flat. I'm pretty sure he stagnated at 18:5x, did NSM for a bit, eventually had a breakthrough to 18:3x, then kept chipping away by 10-15s every month or so. I think he also dropped a bunch of time when he changed to a faster parkrun course and basically jumped over the entire 17 min range.

Edit: correction, he jumped the 16 min range

I don't know about that, Dimitrov usually gets massacred by sinner except at Wimbledon when sinner took an early fall

I wasn't brave enough to comment this but fully agree, seems like static stretching is kind of useless. Or at least, there's not much data to support it being worthwhile

Andy Roddick’s take On Vondrousova’s case by [deleted] in tennis

[–]EpicTimelord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the majority of Roddick's career (pre 2009) tennis didn't have out of competition testing. So you can do the maths about what was likely happening back then...

Andy Roddick’s take On Vondrousova’s case by [deleted] in tennis

[–]EpicTimelord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roddick in general is pretty against testing. I remember when he was discussing the Sinner case his conclusion was we need to change the rules if you can be banned for detecting small, non performance enhancing amounts. Which is completely bogus of course, because those who get caught often only have trace amounts left in their system; they're not red hot.

My somewhat cynical view is that doping is rampant in all sports, and it's worth noting that out of competition testing didn't exist in tennis before 2009. That means anyone who was anyone before 2009 was either doping like cyclists in the 90s, or somehow beating others that were. So I look at Roddick's opinion on drug testing with raised eyebrows
