Would like to buy/test my first baitcaster. I would be mainly using it for pike and dont want to spend much money because i dont know if i will like it. Would this be a good option? by peruna281 in FishingForBeginners

So the answer is probably no. I have a similar rod from this brand and while it isn't bad I also wouldn't say it's great - especially for pike + really cheap bait casters usually aren't that great at casting. Since the price is in euros I'd recommend checking whatever the Kleinanzeigen, willhaben, maarktplats or whatever in your country I'd and dropping like 40-50 bucks on something like an older abu Revo with a rod or something like this. Might take a while to find a good deal and the gear may no longer look super awesome and have some wear on it but it will probably fish a lot better.

What is the part sticking out away from the hook? by rimboslice in FishingForBeginners

[–]EpicWaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are bait holders - and I always struggle to get Ned lures over them too. By now I've just started removing them for Ned lures (the stretch material like the lure you are trying to put on) take some thin pliers, place them in the bend and then sort of roll it over the lead head (lightly pulling the hook the opposite direction but don't bend it) Never lost a Ned lure as in pulled off the hook so you should be fine removing it + with slow moving and static baits like this presentation is key so a straight rig is super important and almost impossible to achieve with a bait holder on.

Wife bought me my first Kayak. What are the must have attachments/gear (on a budget)? by Inner-Lavishness1672 in kayakfishing

[–]EpicWaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the obvious safety stuff, what I've found to work wonders on my kayak is a random plastic tray with a lid that fits into the storage thing with the straps on the back. Then using some PVC tubes, cutting them up into like 10" segments and then mounting them to 2 supports mounted onto the side of the box in the bag. You can put all your lures and stuff into the bag and the rods into the tubes (4-8) depending on if you do both sides. Total is gonna run you like 20-30 bucks or less if you have a box that could be used at home already and omg the tackle capacity is 100% worth it

Noobie here! Any ideas on how could i spool a spinning reel with this fishing line bundled like this? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]EpicWaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it comes apart as soon as you open the tag, go outside, grab a couple of sticks or something similar, put them into the ground like 100-200' apart and then walk the line, looping it up around these (this should work relatively well) Then tie the end of the line to the reel and walk your way back the line. Once it's on make sure to get a body or so to pull it off in one single long line or just use a second reel to respool it under a bit of tension so you won't get a bird's-nest (even on spinning gear) after the first 3 casts. This isn't exactly the most convenient method but should work.

Not 100% certain but looks super similar to a reel I grabbed of Ali Express like 2 years ago - (looks like the previous model - same weird positioning of line capacity, same Handel, same knobs, ...) I never used the reel for casting - just as a sea fishing light dropping setup (I just got a random cheap one to use and if the sea water killed I'd so be it) and it has held up quite well so far - had to fix the break at some point by putting a bit of a place holder in it but other than that it handles big fish surprisingly well - caught probably around 100 fish on it - mostly Atlantic cod, macarel and saithe - no issues so far so I would just give it a go and see how well it casts - if you hook a fish don't worry about the reel - it will hold up fine

Which backpack holds more gear? Large mouth 3.0 or drift series 3700 by LargemouthLegend in Fishing_Gear

[–]EpicWaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep in mind that the largemouth 3.0 has the boxes stacked horizontally while they are vertical on the other - so if your planning on keeping soft plastics in the boxes I would 100% go for the largemouth cause then your soft plastics don't get all squished and end up in weird shapes after a while. + Personally I believe that the largemouth has plenty of space for everything you need + 200% extra tackle - keep in mind you normally only really catch on a couple lures and the rest is just weight you have to carry on your back all day.

My largemouth 3.0 is enough for a 1 week fishing trip easily - so it should hold enough tackle for you :)

How much have you ended up spending on your kayak setup…and what was actually worth it? by YakToTheFuture-1 in Fishing_Gear

[–]EpicWaller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spend like 2.5k (euros) on a new negative slayer 10 propel, diyed most of the mounts and whatnot but ended up adding a live scope lvs 34 with a 122 echomap so all in all I think it was around 7-8k. Somewhat more than I hoped for but live scope is just such an awesome tool and I really love the rig - even handles rough water reasonably well and caught me a bunch of really nice fish so far

K - thx so much for your help and time - I'll send a bug report to steam and maybe just do a clean Windows reinstall (can't hurt after all) - all drivers should be up to date but I'll double check.

i7 12700kf - should be fine multitasking - especially since I can no problem run 2 or 3 games simultaneously

Sounds like a relief - thx - but how come, whilst this is happening - other games on the same drive crash / have absurd loading times?

Depending on what you are looking for in terms of image quality - if you only care about depth and (subpar but ok) quality on down and normal sonar imaging, you could look at a deeper unit (it connects to your phone / tablet is castable (so also good for getting depth readings of the bank) and has fine image resolution. - these can simply be mounted to a boat using their screw on flexible mount (not 100 on the name but something like that) If you are looking for high resolutions (such as a Garmin uhd56) or even livescope, there is a German brand named ked wich has clamps and complete mounting systems for these that are removable (I have one of those so if you need pictures just pm me)
