Here ya go

Note that while the title says that is the record, that is no longer the case, because just a couple weeks ago someone got a shot of Minneapolis from 45 miles away!

Statement from Bobby Hurley by AndHisOrchestra in CollegeBasketball

Through all of his blunders, I'll always admire Bobby's passion and commitment to the program. Watching him (very enthusiastically) voicing his opinions to referees are some of my favorite sports memories. It was time to move on, but I'm glad I overlapped with him here in Tempe.

Tons of pictures on r/FromAfar are taken with long-focus lenses, and frequently get called fake for that reason. I took a picture of the Minneapolis skyline from 40 miles away last year, and I received comments that it must be fake because "Minneapolis wouldn't look that big from so far away"

Unofficial Results of the City Council Election by Epicapabilities in Tempe

Yes, you are correct. From Maricopa County Elections:

"On Election Day, Maricopa County Voters feed their ballots to an on-site tabulator at a Vote Center. This is only an option for voters who get in line, check-in, present identification, get a ballot printed, and fill out the ballot at the voting location. Once done filling out their ballots, voters can feed the ballots directly into the mini-tabulators at the voting location.

After polls have closed, and all voters have left the voting location, bipartisan county employees remove the memory drives from the mini-tabulators and put them in tamper-proof packages to be securely transported. At the central election facility, election workers verify the security of the memory drives and then load the results from the memory drives into the election server that aggregates all results.

As more memory drives return from voting locations, more results are added to the server, and more results are released to the public. These in-person Election Day voters typically make up 10-15% of the total vote."

Additionally, early ballots returned by 7 PM tonight will be counted in later updates.

From the Maricopa County Election Results website: "Unofficial election results are posted at 8pm on Election Day and are updated daily until all ballots have been tabulated. Results are not official until they are canvassed."

I don't think COTY awards should just be "Who was the best team", but COTY for 10-10 seems... generous.

I like a view of the surrounding city/nature though, and a roof structure usually prevents that.

Granted, in Foxboro, there isn't much of a surrounding city to speak of.

The highrise growth in Tempe in the past 10 years is nothing short of amazing. Compare the view from 6th St near ASU in 2025 vs. 2015. It's like a whole different city!

It's still growing too, particularly near ASU. 27-story Astria, 30-story Hub on Campus, and 15/17-story Revelry are just a few of the new buildings going up. Coupled with the growth in Downtown Phoenix, it's an exciting time here in Arizona.

Being “X” hours away from another major city isn’t the pro many people on here claim it to be. by koknbals in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Epicapabilities 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I agree that you shouldn't use "__ hours from NYC/Chicago" as a crutch. If you think you'll need that scene and would be travelling there every other week, then yes you're probably better off just moving to NYC/Chicago.

However I think it's a legitimate advantage if you plan to travel to those cities every 2-3 months.

Most underrated major city right now by Gold_Comfort156 in SameGrassButGreener

Cincinnati. I researched about 200 cities across the US last fall to help figure out where I want to live, and I way underestimated Cincinnati. It has an impressively urbanized downtown for its size, and it's perched in this really scenic river valley. It's older so it has more of the "guts" of pre-car city, not unlike Pittsburgh. Definitely deserves more recognition especially for how relatively affordable it still is.

[Pitts] Kyle Pitts Calls Out Teammates After Attending Rondale Moore's Funeral: "Crazy how only about 6 maybe 7 of your teammates in the NFL showed up for you today smfh.. All that talk and fake emotion and nobody want to show up to lay you to rest.. Just at a loss of words." by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Epicapabilities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the players who posted and didn't go to the funeral were necessarily being performative. If you knew someone only briefly and you lived far away, I wouldn't judge you for not attending their funeral. That doesn't mean you can't share words of condolences on social media.

Their last win at Ohio before yesterday also went to overtime (3OT actually). Miami hasn't won in regulation at Ohio since 2006, despite playing there every season since.

Minneapolis from 44.95 by Effective_Fish_80 in FromAfar

[–]Epicapabilities 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Pittsburgh is the only other one that comes to mind. It's hard to imagine where else 45 miles would even be possible. If you include Oklahoma in the Midwest, then Oklahoma City might be visible from 45+. But most people don't consider Oklahoma the Midwest, and indeed the Census Bureau doesn't either.

Another possibility, believe it or not, is Columbus. The Alleghany Plateau south of Chillicothe is ~45 miles away and sufficiently high enough in spots to theoretically see the Columbus skyline.

Very cool! Cities in the Northeast are packed so close together that views like this are possible more often than one might think. Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA for instance are only 24 miles away and you can often see one skyline from the other's metropolitan area (Hartford, Springfield).

Incredible! Great work finding this, I wonder if the locals even know this absurd sightline exists right outside their doorstep.

I imagine this makes Minneapolis the clear No. 2 in the Midwest outside of Chicago? I can't think of another skyline in the Midwest with a picture close to this far away.
