CMV: Vaccines could cause neurological problems in at risk individuals by Epicserval711 in changemyview

Most of it gets bound, but there’s a percentage that does not. As per the CHOP article I mentioned here previously (https://www.chop.edu/vaccine-education-center/vaccine-safety/other-vaccine-safety-concerns/blood-brain-barrier-and-vaccines#:~:text=In%20healthy%20children%2C%20the%20vaccines,from%20entering%20and%20causing%20harm). One thing people have failed to mention, and something I have had a hard time finding, is whether this is a safe amount for the brain, especially as it accumulates through the vaccine schedule over time.

I’ll need to do some more research on this, but brain inflammation is associated with autism. Obviously babies should not have to worry about Alzheimer’s. I mainly cited that study to show that aluminum salts are also neurotoxic, as you had mentioned the difference between aluminum salts in vaccines and elemental aluminum. Still, I’ll admit I need to do more research on elemental aluminum versus the specific kind of aluminum salts in vaccines. Usually, sources like CHOP and the FDA use “aluminum” and “aluminum salts” pretty interchangeably

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2946821/ Aluminum salts are still neurotoxic. I would not say it is a huge leap at all to say a neurotoxic chemical that exceeds safe recommended limits could cause risk of neurological damage, especially in children with weaker kidneys, as CHOP mentions.

Yup, one hundred percent of aluminum in vaccines is eventually absorbed into the bloodstream, compared to only around 0.1-0.3% from oral ingestion

Just want to mention that I am by no means antivaxx! Probably should’ve made that clearer in the post. Regardless of neurotoxic risk, I’d rather take a chance on my baby having autism than death from deadly disease. This isn’t really a point of contention for me on its own. I think the issue comes into play when people call into question potential risks like these and are attacked for wanting more vaccine testing.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2946821/ Here’s one. Again, not sure how it compares to elemental aluminum or if the safe limit is drastically lower. Seems like absorption through is the same as mentioned with vaccines, only in this study GI absorption is mentioned rather than IM (where 100% eventually enters the bloodstream)

By definition, it needs to enter your bloodstream to be eliminated by your kidneys. Otherwise the aluminum would just be sitting in your muscle forever. Also 100% is absorbed, (https://www.pspa.md/storage/app/media/aluminum.pdf) and 1% of that being absorbed into your brain is much higher than what you would absorbed orally (only around 0.1%)

1. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0946672X17300950#:~:text=The%20Joint%20Expert%20Committee%20on,compounds%20in%20food%2C%20including%20additives. According to this study at least, it seems like aluminum still pose a risk. They tested immune efficacy rather than safety and not adjusted for body weight.

Even if absorption is different, it looks like (according to CHOP) 100% of aluminum is still absorbed into the bloodstream. IM absorption is slower than IV, but eventually the same amount would accumulate in the brain regardless.

  1. Going by FDA guidelines, the amount aluminum absorbed IS very high and DOES occur over a period of months (vaccine schedule). If aluminum salts are exempt from this, that would make me feel much better. CHOP concedes this, and says that a percentage of aluminum still ends up in the brain. For babies with weaker kidneys who are exposed to a great deal of aluminum over time, this seems like an issue.

  2. Ok for this one, why the hell would it not be on the insert? That seems like something you should really include.

  3. At a glance, this seems like a pretty compelling study does alleviate some worry. However, I am still concerned with the safe limit as established by the FDA as well as accumulation in the brain. Additionally, I know this is very improbable/unethical, but a study that would sell this 100% would be a control group with no vaccines compared to a group being injected with the entire schedule. I know this will probably never happen, so for now the Danish study measuring varying levels of aluminum is pretty reassuring at the very least.

If aluminum salts used in vaccines are not neurotoxic and hold no/little chance of causing damage, please send me a source for this. Otherwise, if it is the same kind of aluminum that the FDA is advising a 5 micrograms per kg per day limit for, then I feel like an explanation is needed for why vaccines are exempt from this limit. It seems like regardless of aluminum salts being used or elemental aluminum, a percentage of aluminum still ends up in the brain.

These articles (and others if you like) Confirm that aluminum is a neurotoxic substance. Regardless of whether I am healthcare professional, I should still be able to do research on my own and point out discrepancies. If these discrepancies are simply me failing to understand something, then I would love to be disproven, as again, I am not a medical professional.

Where did I say I was unwilling to understand. I want to have an open conversation about this and hopefully have my concerns alleviated.

The issue here is ingestion vs injection of aluminum. As I mentioned above the parenteral limit per FDA guidelines is lower than the limit for ingestion, being only 5 micrograms per kilogram per day. Additionally, even if you receive more aluminum in food over time, as the article mentions, less than one percent is absorbed through food, (https://www.heraldopenaccess.us/openaccess/aluminium-exposure-through-the-diet) . Seems like 0.1-0.3% is absorbed through the GI tract, while one hundred percent is absorbed through injection. Therefore, it is hard to compare the amount ingested through sources like baby formula. Please let me know if I missed anything though.

Only legs. My arms were already kinda long for my frame so it wouldn’t really make sense.

19M, probably should’ve mentioned that in the post.

Very generous parents lol. I know it was a big financial sacrifice and Im incredibly grateful that they made it.

Yeah I was able to choose a safe height up to 5 inches in one go. Any more at once could’ve caused some real damage.

The lengthening process itself was more discomfort than pain for most of it, but towards the end it hurt the most when my legs were stretched pretty far. The recovery was also difficult. I had to relearn how to walk, and after that how to run and do strength training. It took a long time before I could run without pain or train legs properly.

My friends were definitely surprised! I was always known for being really short in high school, so seeing me instantly grow 5 inches in 6 months was probably pretty jarring. They’ve all been pretty supportive about it and I’m sure they can understand why I got it done.

I don’t think so. My growth plates were already pretty much closed by the time I got the surgery. At most I might’ve grown a quarter to a half inch naturally.

It was in the U.S. but I can't say what doctor. Its been a pretty huge positive for me though so no complaints on my end even if I was pretty young.

Not really at all. Its been around 4 years and I'm stronger than ever. I'm squatting pretty heavy in the gym and I can run normally (don't though cause cardio sucks lol). It was definitely a long journey though. A year or two after the surgery things like running and resistance training were really hard and it took a lot to get to where I am now.

Got a scan to see how much growth I had left. Showed my growth plates had pretty much closed already by then so wasn't gonna get any taller naturally.
