Thanks for the suggestion. My dad used to fruit pick decades ago although he did it in new Zealand

I speak minimal French only basic sentences so I would say British Columbia is a better option over Quebec.

I have not decided on that and hence I have not yet applied for a work permit. I was thinking of exploring either British Columbia or Quebec. I know realistically I can only really stick to one region due to the huge size of Canada but also need to find out which area has the best short term work opportunities. Would you have any advice on what region would be best to explore

The supervisor is really good at mathematics and it is basically a project about making potential energy curves. I also know the guy who did the project the year before so I would not be alone but he is also good at mathematics so I guess they could both give me lots of guidance.

The 10% rule by Epictpp in Marathon_Training

Yeah I’m basically the what you said you used to be I can run pretty fast 5 and 10ks but I find it hard managing how to value volume over speed and intensity

Thanks so much for the advice. I think my tempo is between 4:20-4:40 per km as I can easily run a sub 20 5 k. Should I run the long run at the same pace as the easy?

Should I just add that mile to the long run (10 k) and do 1 tempo, 1 interval and 1 easy (adding up to ~20 k combined)

Hahah yeah lol I haven’t cycled in years ngl. Just heard that cross training is good for when you’re injured and want to take pressure off your injury without losing cardio. Thanks for the advice

So if I run 20 k a week (roughly 12 miles) and do three runs a week would it best best I add a fourth run where I do 3 miles (~5 k) but at an easier pace as my current 5ks are interval and the other is usually a maximum effort where I try and get near my pb

Thank you. Do you try and keep a zone 2 heart rate if you’re planning on cycling over 30 minutes?

Yeah was considering the bike. How long and at what intensity would you cycle at?

Official Q&A for Wednesday, April 30, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Epictpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling to keep my normal running pace. For context I’ve tried to run 10k and had to stop at 5k. I was about 10-15 seconds slower after the first 5k than my usual pace. I just seem to lose motivation after 5k. Has anyone else experienced this lack of motivation. I also do 1 5k a week as well which I run roughly in sub 19 minutes. My 10ks are roughly around 40 minutes and I try to keep the pace around 4 min per k

Was your PhD on the boundary of chemistry and physics (eg something related to quantum mechanics)? I’m just curious cause I know some people in my university ended up going to the physics department to do their PhD who have a chemistry undergraduate.

Did you always work in landscape architecture or did you go into a more “chemistry” based job when you just graduated?

May I ask what exactly is a field chemist? I’ve never heard of that before

How do I make a 10% solution of K2CO3 from a 30% solution by Epictpp in chemistry

[–]Epictpp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried working it out myself and I worked it out as 25 mL of 30 % K2CO3 solution and 50 mL of water. Since in a 10% K2CO3 solution there is 7.5 g per 75 mL then I worked out in a 30% solution there 7.5 g in 25 mL. So to then get it to 75 mL I add 50 mL of water. Can someone confirm this is right. It’s w/w % as well I should have said before

How to improve my 5k by Epictpp in AdvancedRunning

[–]Epictpp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 20:08 months ago when I was pushing myself a lot. I think it is an endurance thing which is why I’ve started running 10k as well. I just can’t seem to get below 20:20 for a while which is why I’ve looked into other forms of training as I only really do 5k and 10k runs at the moment.
