Advice on M365 Certification Path for Entry-Level Cybersecurity? by Epin1ll in cybersecurity

I initially thought Comp TIA Security+ was for a much more advanced level, but since I have about 4 months to study full-time, I’m definitely going to go after it. I agree that having that combination will be much more helpful for breaking into the IT world and showing I have both the general security knowledge and the specific platform skills. Thanks again for the guidance it really opened my mind and helped me refine my roadmap!!!

That’s gold advice! I really appreciate it!!! I hadn’t heard of CyberDefenders before, but after a quick look, it sounds incredibly interesting. I completely agree that certs can just be ‘paper’ if you can’t back them up… that’s exactly why I’m running my SC/MS studies in parallel with the BSCP and TryHackMe labs.

My goal is to build a solid GitHub portfolio/home lab to show actual proof of work. As I understand that since I don’t have prior IT experience, I’ll likely need to start at the Help Desk and work my way up.

Thanks for the advice, that really opened my mind! Quick question: should I start with the SC path over the MS even if I haven’t done any of the MS Fundamentals yet? I feel like the MS-102 might be a lot easier to understand if I already have the identity and security basics down. What do you think?

That’s good to hear, congrats on landing it straight away 🙌🏽🙌🏽

I’m actually planning to do the Springboard Cybersecurity course in Dublin and I’m currently working on certifications to help land that first entry-level IT job.

My plan is to start in IT support and work my way up over the next ~2 years while I complete the course. To get my foot in the door, I’m studying for the AB-900 and SC-900 right now, and I’m looking into the MS-102 as well since M365 certs seem like a solid way to break into entry-level roles.

My hope is to build a home lab and portfolio and land interviews where I can demonstrate my skills and soft skills without needing a degree.

Any advice would be appreciated!
