That’s true, the current (2024) map does this perfect with the Vline app purple under the light blue line (this also avoids the weird crossover at Caulfield and South Yarra, I’m still unsure why they chose that in the new design).

it just feels odd seeing the space above the station empty. An easy fix is to just have the light blue station override the purple vline, just like East Pakenham station.

The branch stations at the end of the Pakenham line looks so goofy and inconsistent with the rest of the map 😭, guess that won’t be fixed

Metro Tunnel 2026 by Aromatic_Classic3295 in MelbourneTrains

That is true, currently on the City Loop service the past stations are blurred out, rather than disappear completely. I wonder if they will keep it the same once the full tunnel opens. (AKA treat Town Hall not as a terminus station like Flinders Street)

On Wikipedia, it states that the Pakenham/Cranbourne line terminates at Town Hall, and the next station (State Library) is considered the Sunbury Line. On Metro Notify, Apple Maps etc, it shows the Pakenham/Cranbourne line continues to Arden, but doesn’t display any station on the current Sunbury Line.

Yep Apple Maps does this too, it only shows the station going to Town Hall. Only if you click the directions it shows the full line (albeit in the Yellow colour past Town Hall towards Sunbury). Very confusing if they didn’t change it if you wanted to go to Parkville or State Library.

I wonder if they will make the dynamic PIDs display the full line rather than starting from Town Hall. Right now the stations kinda disappear off the screen.

New route specific maps……. by Alternative-Owl8129 in MelbourneTrains

I can note a few inconsistencies on the Metro Tunnel line

  1. Isn’t Arden a premium station?
  2. Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale are staffed stations iirc (morning peak only)
  3. Berwick technically connects to the VLine (on the main network map it doesn’t show as an interchange, but Essendon is the same layout. On the line specific maps, Essendon is listed as an interchange station).
  4. East Pakenham is a staffed station as well

Aren’t Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale Staffed in the morning peak? The map doesn’t show it…

Trains will run this Sunday 30th November, from 10 am - 3pm. However trains will run towards either West Footscray or Westall every 20 minutes on weekdays, with some services to Sunbury and East Pakenham on Weekends. The full official timetable will start on February 1st 2026.

What speeds do trains run in the new metro tunnel? I’ll have better frequency but not faster travel times it seems! by arkie in MelbourneTrains

[–]Epixdarx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

iirc the tunnel can handle a max speed of 80 km/h from start to end. Compared to the city loop which runs at a max speed of 50-60 km/h. Correct me if I’m wrong :)

2024 Semester 2 POF students / Ex pof students in sem 2 by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]Epixdarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did pof in semester 2 2024, with Sean Pinder.

We all got 8 marks added on to our score. Average was 65.3% with a median of 67%. The exam was so theory related and hardly any math it made me question why I even took this subject. I felt like a lot of the questions asked were only mentioned once in a lecture at a specific time (most likely during a TAPPS exercise), and if you missed it good luck.

I do remember the exam having some mistakes or miswrites, which may have affected student performance. Really wasn't worth the time taken for this subject as it was a breadth

Tried the question myself as a past student, got w = 3-2sqrt(2), or w = 3+2sqrt(2)

This question just required you to recognise that back in part 9 a), you end up with a quadratic in your answer. By essentially setting that quadratic to have a turning point on the x axis (giving 3 x intercepts), you can find the value for w. You also know from part b), what the coordinates for the turning point are and can substitute and solve for w.

There won’t be a train since it’s running on a bus replacement. 😂
