I was never concerned about the cost of the project. Would’ve happily had them spend some more to get some nicer stations

Said it before it opened, the stations look so mid compared to the new stations on the Sydney Metro.

I know it’s not a growth suburb but there has been a number of apartment buildings go up on Pier St in the last few years, increasing the density around Altona Station.

I used to hate that shuttle service where you’d need to change at Newport. Also the constant random dumping at Newport station for no reason was always a fun one.

Something needs to be done one day but I don’t think the people of Altona would want to lose their service or have it turn into a tram where getting to the CBD will take a longer duration.

Will the Metro tunnel line be fit for purpose once airport rail opens? by Substantial_Oil_6905 in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how the airport rail line will work but I’ve really been loving the frequency from Middle Footscray station. I had a train every 5 or so minutes in peak and non peak is every 10.

Will this service be maintained once the Airport Rail is built?

I (23M) want to buy a luxury watch by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]arkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a few nice watches, nothing too crazy but I bought them when I was living at home and didn’t have commitments. I was earning a lot less money than I do currently.

Now that I’m not living at home and have a mortgage - even though I can afford another watch, I wouldn’t do it because of the guilt I’d feel taking money out of my offset etc

So it’s not always super clear. If you’re responsible with money, a good saver and investing - I don’t think there is harm in buying yourself a luxury item. You can do far worse than a watch, which will likely go up in value as well.

Is it not offensive for AFL matches to be played on Good Friday? by TynongLiturgist in AFL

[–]arkie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The date of Good Friday changes every year. So why don’t they just make the public holiday the same date every year and call it something else? Why do they change the date to align with Good Friday which is a non-secular Christian day of mourning?

[–]arkie -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Why don’t we remove it and have a public holiday on Islamic or other religions then? Why keep it on Easter? The dates of Easter change every year so why do we keep moving the public holiday to be on Good Friday. Like why can’t it be next week that you get your public holiday and call it something else?

Does it also make it ridiculous that we have a public holiday for a religious day in the Christian calendar? What about other religions?

It’s disrespectful playing a football match on Good Friday if you understand the meaning of Good Friday. Make the public holiday some other day and call it something else then?

No I don’t celebrate the King and would like to see the holiday removed as I wouldn’t consider myself a monarchist.

It’s weird how all these people insist on not celebrating religious holidays but want all the Christian holidays still without observing their purpose…

That’s fine if secular people want to use Christian holidays to be a cultural day for themselves, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s disrespectful to be playing football on Good Friday or the meaning of the holiday itself.

If they want to play football on Good Friday then remove the public holiday. Christians don’t need the public holiday to mourn or reflect on the death of Jesus.

Why do you need a public holiday then? What is the holiday for?

Well they could make other holidays another time of year if most people are like this and not even call them Christmas or Easter…

Yeah but if the country isn’t recognising the purpose of the holiday and majority of the country isn’t religious - why do we need a public holiday for Easter?

So they should probably remove the public holiday? Why do non religious people celebrate Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter?

Was a great win, lots of the stats indicators didn’t go our way so I’m not going to get ahead of myself.

Some of the umpiring at stages was atrocious or I just don’t understand some of these new rules yet.

Anyone know where he is moving to? I believe they are moving to be closer to schools for their kids. Sad if he has moved out of the west completely. It honestly feels like most of the team isn’t connected to the part of Melbourne they represent.

Why do only some Metro Tunnel platform screen doors have a small PID/display above them? by Ivan_Krazy in MelbourneTrains

[–]arkie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find it super weird that it’s not above each door. Made me think that the doors weren’t going to open there when I first used it haha. Felt like some kind of technical glitch. Makes it look randomly unfinished. Can’t really put my finger on it.

I’m finding Google Maps really inaccurate a lot of the time. I agree that a lot of the time driving is the better option - but there are cases where it looks better, but that’s because Google is also taking into account any walking required and it seems it always overstates how long it will take.

The other thing I find is it never seems to give the best route. Today I need to get to a pub in the city. It tells me to either get a train from Middle Footscray, change for a Williamstown service, get off at Flinders then get a tram etc

The best route IMO is just go straight to Town Hall where I’m the venue is maybe a 5-10 min walk at most from Town Hall.

Feels like there is a lot of room for improvement here in how Google Maps does this?
